I learned English BEFORE I immigrated to the USA.
If they want to do this...OK
Saying that, The real issue is control of the boarder.
Sure, too many Spanish speakers is a problem for us, and the spanish speakers too!
But the big potential problem is with Arabic speakers with imported pyrotectnics!

Where is the liberal sense of majority rule?
This is only a problem for the democrats who are set upon making anything 'apple pie' somehow politically incorrect, though:
85% of the American public wants an official language decree.
92% of Republicans in the House want it, also.
The only democrat candidate that has come out in favor of it, is Mike Gavel.
When looking at the democrat candidates as a whole, it is obvious that based upon their platforms and attitudes, there is a need for all Americans to send a message to Washington that we intend to maintain our American heritage, our patriotic rights and national identity by voting Republican in the upcoming election.
There is no shame in being a US citizen.
Sideline - when attending the University of Texas at Brownsville, my professors often spoke in Spanish. After raising my hand to let them know I couldn't understand, they would speak a few lines of English before going back to Spanish again. I once made an appointment with a tutor prior to taking a test I needed help with only to find an English speaking tutor was unavailable.
- This should NEVER happen on our soil. I moved out of Brownsville so sorry I ever went.
Years later, one of the first fallen soldiers of the Afghani War was from the Brownsville area and I sat anxiously awaiting a news conference in honor of his body being returned home. The mayor of Brownsville was scheduled to speak. He approached the podium amid the flash of major media and spoke in Spanish only!
How sad that he felt it more important to make a statement regarding his ethnicity than convey the enormity of that lost to the American public.
Tsk, tsk, shouldn't have happened.

Not a direct issue. Illegal immigration is such a critical issue for our nation that many Americans will vote to prevent amnesty as their sole issue. I swear that Florida does not have a majority voice with the elderly anymore. Latinos far outnumber retirees and they want everything the US has to offer. For free, of course.

English is the language of this country. I will not learn Spanish or any other language. If your from a foreign country, that's fine with me. But if you cant speak English, don't come here until you can.

While I agree with you I don't think it will be a wedge issue. Actually it will be a small issue which may become part of the immigration issue which is a very important issue.

Doubtful a wedge issue. People on both sides agree. Kick the politicians out of office who are having trouble listening!

I couldn't agree more. That is why i am doing everything i can as a citizen to fight illegal immigration, from protesting in the streets to contacting our elected officials.
If more people did this maybe our Government would wake up and listen.
