I'm not surprised that these countries are doing better than the US on gender equality (look at how few women are representing us in our federal and state congresses): Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Germany, Denmark, UK, Netherlands, Belgium, and Canada, New Zealand & Australia,
But I was surprised to find out that the Philippines, Ireland, Spain, Sri Lanka, Croatia, Moldova, South Africa, Latvia, Lithuania and Colombia all have surpassed the US in gender equality. I wasn't aware that our female literacy rate was still so poor in 2006, since all I've been hearing about is how many US women are getting into college now. That certainly has covered up the true facts, hasn't it?
In spite of some advances, the US still has a long way to go, not only politically but educationally. Finding out 65 other countries have better female literacy and better female political representation is depressing-that's quite a gap. Guess boys aren't being short-changed in education like the media is portraying it?
It's interesting that Costa Rica, Bangladesh, and India all not only have better political equality in than the US, but they are also in the top 20. Just who is a 1st and 2nd world country now?

the actuality which you probably did no longer understand lots approximately Muslims 25 years in the past isn't appropriate. Is an understanding of Muslims the only new theory you have gained interior the final 25 years. became each little thing you probably did no longer understand then component to some conspiracy to maintain you ignorant? There ought to no longer have been lots to appreciate 25 years in the past. i'm neither Muslim nor American and that i stumble on the U. S. interference in different international places in basic terms as unwelcome.

The usa only ranks 23 in gender equality because people have never lost their biases. We have made laws to help give similar rights but people still believe men should work and women should stay at home cleaning and watching children. It also is not going to be easily changed because women either want to stay at home and be housewives, are to lazy, or do not want to go aginst the norm. I do think that America should be in the top ten, I think they should be in the top 3. America isthe most economicly, technologicly, and govermentaly advance country by them not being the most gender egual country they are setting them selves back, giving other countrys the chance to step ahead and advance infront of them.

Gender equality is an impossible dream.
The genders are different. We think differently, act differently, & have different strengths.
Lobbying for laws that grant equal outcome will NEVER solve anything.
Equal opportunity is 100% fair.
Equal outcome is horribly flawed, fake, and unconstitutional.
Male representation in government benefits females WAY more than males. How many "men's issues" do our politicians have as part of their platforms?
Ask yourself the same question about "women's issues."
