"The problem is with intolerant behavior and speech by those who supposedly are the loudest to advocate political correctness. It is political correctness to think that if others do not agree with you, you get the shrillness, the screaming, namecalling, homophobe, racist, bigot, mean-spirited treatment dished out by the radical leftists who will never try to accommodate conservatives in the political process."
You could very well be describing your side of the fence as well. It's funny how when you get so passionate about your views that you fail to see all others that don't agree with it as valid. Please take a look in the mirror before you type. You just proved the Asker's question to be true.

The public in the US is swayed by emotions rather than logic. They are also apathetic. People will talk about problems in Government but when it comes to doing something about it - that is too much trouble It takes a lot of work by "Activists" to get someting done. Remember that of all the qualified voters in the USA, usually 1/2 or less go to the polls and vote. That means that the people who go to gonvernment and the various referendums that pass or are defeated are controlled by about 26% of the voting public.
Yes, we are divided. The (Fanatical) christians are really coming to control the government because of this. This would tell you that we are heading, as in the middle East, for a nation rules by religious belief and not civil law. Why, because they get out and vote and other people don't bother. All they have to do is control the majority of those who vote and with their numbers, that is easy. Yes we are badly divided and people think they solve the problem by not voting. In fact, what they are doing is giving control of government to the very people who should not have it.

no. technology and convenience have softened us. we haven't seen 10 year-old children marching in the streets to demand schooling, rather than 16-hour workdays in almost a hundred years. we've gotten so used to the "safety net" provided by our forebearers that we neglect to think about the possibility of a return to the era of robber barons and peasants, which is something the conservative movement has been working consistently toward for more than 40 years.
proof of this complacency comes in the fact that, according to EVERY poll taken in the last DECADE, America is, by and large, a liberal nation: we support abortion legality in most or all cases, stricter gun control, more access to health care, equal rights for gays and lesbians, etc... yet we have allowed a man to blatantly steal the presidency, not once but TWICE, allowed the highest court in the land to be packed with ideologues, allowed the federal government into our homes and our phone conversations, and have yet to show even the slightest inclination toward charging people with crimes that they have clearly and ADMITTEDLY committed.
we have forgotten, as a nation, that the government are our employees -- we can fire them.

I think that most people are sheep and will never rise up. If even the most left and right wing people talk we find there is a lot of common ground. Problem is we seldom talk to each other and believe what we are told. Big Brother has been around for a long time.

Your question dreams of a truly great place. A place where common sense and logic trump the emotional competitions and the unending desire to have the last word. Bill O'Reilly is almost 100% responsible for this mentality where you break down others to appear strong and knowledgeable. Until we stop watching the "Factor" and deeming ourselves expert, this utopia can never exist.

It is an ebb and flow. We are definitely at a low point right now, but things will improve. At some point Americans will have to go back to the self sufficient attitude that we built the country on instead of the entitlement attitude we are currently fostering.

Nope, sure don't believe that will ever happen. People are too tied up in their Hummers, Mercedes, Ipod, online, etc. To bother. Those people you mentioned are politicians and publicity hounds. Nothing they say can possibly mean anything worthwhile. Pelosi is a proven liar, Limbaugh is a loudmouthed bully, Hannity and Combs are trained performers.

No, I believe most people voice their thought, but do not vote, and that's a shame.
It's strange how you compare 2 elected officials to 2 radio hosts. I guess Rush & Sean are the only Repub's who will fight back against the libs.
Srracuvee: you are a good person, and thank you for your service, you are one of the greatest generation which has ever lived.

If the draft is reinstituted, the mothers of America will rise up and this foolishness will end.
We are not outnumbered by the hatchling. It just seems that way because they have seized control of the government & media.

Unfortunately, no.
I don't think they are speaking for us. They certainly don't speak for me.
I think we are very divided.
I also think people don't really care. Two few of us do and they know that. People are too wrapped up in their every day lives to pay attention. I think they count on that. Once they are in they are really difficult to get out. We need a clean slate.
I really like your question, though. Hopefully people will begin to smarten up. We have a really great country!!!
