Ok, I want to become an actress.
What is the first step I need to do?? I have heard that people go to a special acting school, I think for a few hours a week, for a couple of years, to become actors or actresses. Please someone help me, I live in London.
Does anyone know what I need to do? This is my dream, everytime I think of the films I can do, and i'm so good at acting, it hurts me, cause I'm just wasting my time doing nothing. Please help me, I really appreciate it. and please no rude comments. Thank you

No rude comments? My dear, the first rule of being an actor is to have a thick skin and a Teflon-coated back -- you will be subjected to rude comments daily.

Anyway, to the meat of the matter.

If you want to become an actress, then do it. Go to school or study with a reputable private teacher. Start auditioning. Acting is like anything in the arts -- you get better at it by doing it. You're in London, so there are tons of opportunities for you.

Now, look at your last paragraph. It hurts you to think of films you can do, because you're "so good at acting"? What does that mean? If you think that your passion automatically equals ability, you are deluding yourself in a very big way. Your wanting to be an actor is insufficient -- you have to work at it. And if that statement means you're egomaniacal, you need to nip that in the bud -- though the media loves to paint obnoxious divas as somehow glamorous, the reality is that no producer or director ever wants to work with a petulant diva.

Finally, you stated that you're wasting time doing nothing. Well, you need to get up off your behind and do something. You must always, always, ALWAYS move forward in the arts -- to be stagnant is to become rusty and whither. So turn off the computer and get out there and start learning and doing.

Contact a "School of the Arts" and think about taking classes that they feel will help you with your goals. I would seek a professional photo agency to build a portfolio, be careful of fraud, I would also look into local modeling jobs that may help to bring you into the lime light. Be careful, there are a lot of users out there that may take advantage of you so stay straight and follow your dream. Always have a back up plan in case the acting thing does not work out, like a degree in school. If you ever make it famous, remember me if you ever need a bodyguard, take care and good luck. Be safe and stick to your morals.

You might try volunteering in some amature theatricals in your area. If you are in school join the drama club. It will give you experience and a chance to find out if this is really for you and if you have the talent for it. Going to a drama school is probably going to cost you some money and if you don't like it or just don't have the talent it will be wasted. You might want to try it out first. You might find that doing work on the set is more interesting to you. Something like directing might be what you wanted to do. Give it a try first before investing money!

I am guessing here that you're a good exhibitionist and that is in your favor.
Go to College and take drama. Then with a little help especially in the U.S, you can try out in an audition and maybe you get the part. Its that simple said, but with 300 auditions....yikes, competition is ruff, but hey, give it your best. That's how Tom Cruise did it. he got lucky and passed the audition and when it came down to to the last ten people he got the part.

Auditions are always being held in New York and Los Angeles. You pick up the newspaper and it reads "Warner Brothers casting for new movie looking for male and females around age 21 to 30 yrs."
If you fall in that category..go try out. Its free and who knows what will happen. You could be the next star.

Commercial advertisers usually send out scouts in the City looking for a certain face and feature in a person.

I was selected for a Wine Commercial in Los Angeles back in 1978.
It was the only time I appeared on national television. I never pursued the career with Metromedia either. I joined the Airforce. They paid me $3,500 for a 45 second commercial.

no rude comment? to be an actor you first have to be determined you will be one no matter what anybody says.
Met a guy who went to school with ANDY GARCIA and all thru High School he said he was going to be an actor. Determination and practice and being at the right place at the right time is how an actor is born..there is no majic actors school of success

Of course, it is very simple. You have to attend a drama school such as Guildhall or RADA, after you get out of college, so pay attention to you academics and get high marks, you are going to need them. If you are "so good at acting," it will be no problem for you to be accepted. The first step you need to do, ready? ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Get mum on your side. Without your parents' support for your being an actor you are doomed. The next thing to do is get into your school plays. If you are "so good at acting" you will surely get the lead roles. If you don't get good roles in the school plays, perhaps you are not "so good at acting" after all. Oh, yeah, one of the personality traits of a successfull actor is humility.

OK here are a few English actors off the top of my head, but as you can see they all have different ways of getting in to the industry.

I would say go find an agency, and go for auditions. The thing is I'm not too sure how it works. And it may be a good idea to go to an acting class, and I'm sure there are people who made it on the screen from there.

Good Luck and call me when you get famous!

Look in newspapers for walk on rolls in movies and whatnot. Its possible to be discovered that way. Join the drama club at school. Good luck.

If you believe you are already a polished actress, go to LA (for movies) or NY (for theatre). Those are the two Meccas for acting.

If you want to get some training, I don't know if there are acting schools in London.

Instead of going to school. Why don't you try acting in community theater. It will give you the experience which in my opinion is about as valuable as going to a formal school to learn it. Also, see whether or not any university plays have open auditions to the public.
