I had a c-section almost 14 months ago. two weeks after having it my incicion came open on each end. i had to pack it for about 3-4 months later. now 14 months later one side is still draining. i have went to my doctor several times and he says that everything is fine. he even cauterized it a couple of times. but it still came back open. so i finally went to get anther opinion at a general surgeon. he said what they used to close me up were non disolveable sutures and it is what is probably causing all the trouble. not only that he said i havea staff infection. not one of the bad kind but it is a staff infection. well this past thursday i had surgery to see what is going on in there. he did find one of the sutures still in me. he said that is what has been causing all of the infections. my obgyn never even put me on any antibiotics. i think my obgyn should have to pay for everything. should i go to him first or should i get a lawyer first? please give me your opinion.

Get an attorney. He would deny everything because it doesn't look good for him.

Be smart go to a lawyer first ,you defiantly have a law suit . and change doctors this one you have now should not be in practice if he doesn't have the compassion to check into what he may have done wrong there is no reason for you to have gone into so much pain for as long as you have.

You need to get an attorney to inform him that you are pursuing a malpractice suit. Make sure you have documentation of everything and keep all your bills. He may offer to quickly settle to keep this from going to court where you may get punitive damages in addition to actual damages
