It is difficult to answer since you did not elaborate on the topic requirements. However here are some basics:
Fiction - A tale that elaborates on a fact but is based on imaginings
Non-fiction - A tale that is all facts with no elaborations
Myth - A tale that is completely imagined
Once you decide what to write, make an outline (http://www.albany.edu/eas/170/outline.htm) it will help you organize your thoughts. Then follow your outline to write your story. If you follow the "use what you know/want to know" rule the story will be really good as well - never write (if you can avoid it) about something you don't want to, for example if you are assigned to write about Football and you don't like football write about a person or a fan and how they see it so the story is more interesting. There are so many topics for writing it is difficult to give specific advice without a clear direction but I hope this gives you the basics so you can focus your efforts. Good Luck!

It doesnt have to be a true story of your life but at least something you are interested in or know about. Things like how you treat people that are different from you, do girls and boys see things differently, are athletes treated different than honor students, should the curfew be later for teens in your town, are teens really poorer drivers than adults etc.

A personal event that happened in your life. I once wrote a journal entry about the time I caught on tape an actual confrontation between an angry customer and a ticket scalper near Fenway Stadium. Hope this helps!

Write a story about Halloween and what kinds of things people hand out nowadays. Is it candy, or some graham crackers because people want kids to eat healthier.

Write about something your interested in or you know lots about, because then you'll appear knowledgable. Also it's best to write a lot about a little instead of a little about a lot.
