Been a long time since I read it, but...

Most of the boys form a tribe little more advanced than a wolf pack; there's an alpha (leader), and everyone else simply follows along. As such, no one in the pack (but the alpha) is distinguishable from each other.

The pack outsiders are hunted, some killed -- similar to "the nail that stands out is hammered down first".

Piggy (the asthmatic kid; like I said, long time) is a clear example of "weak and infirm", which are always hunted first (easiest kill).

Sam and Eric become Samneric -- utterly without individuality between them.

They have no remaining trappings of civilization among them until it is re-imposed in the form of the ship captain.

That's all I can remember. High school English class was many, many moons ago.

They lost their individual personalities they had upon reaching the island and all gained a new, savage identity to fit into the mob mentality.
