what phonemic activity could i use that will encourage children to read and write

How old are the kids? How about a game: "I'm thinking of the sound...." if you have the letters that make that sound on your card (bingo style) put a marker on it. Or if the kids are older, I'm thinking of a word that starts with the sound.... See if you can write a word that starts with that sound. For either game, use sounds of single letters to begin with and progress to combinations like sh, ch, st, etc.
