A friend of mine met her boyfriend on an online dating site. She is 42 but looks about 32. On her profile she stated that she was 32 and her picture supported this. She met a guy online and they chatted for a couple of months then he wanted to meet her. On their first meeting she told him her age as she wanted to make sure he was ok with it before getting involved with her. He didn't have a problem and they've been together for years. I'm interested in what men think of this? Personally I think it is fair enough as lots of guys dont care about the actual age but the look. If you put over 40, you often get filtered out of many searches. I'm thinking of doing internet dating and am just wondering?

Well my first thought wasn't too nice. I thought "what a liar" and stuff. But as I read on and see that she came clean about her actual age and is with the same guy now for years, made me lighten up a bit. Oh, she still lied but hey, it worked for them and that is what matters. I think that is cool. So if you are going to do the same thing with your age you may have good luck too. I hope you do. We all need someone in our lives. And you are probably right about some men and the age versus the looks thing, and the filtering thingy too. I met my wife on the Internet and we feel very Blessed. I'm 42 and my boyfriend is 24. I don't think he would of given me a chance if we had met over the Internet. He would of seen that I was 42 and moved on. I think she was wanting to get the face to face to let him see what she was all about. I don't blame her for it, after all, she did tell him first thing.

it depends. some guys would be furious..(as i know some of my male friends who wanted to strangle a few girls they met for it) but it all depends..because the relationship is already starting on a bad note: a lie. if age really is nothing but a number, then why lie about it? if you look good for your age, set an example for others in your age group. no need to lie. of course if you're robbing the grave and you're like...101, then yea...you MIGHT want to tone it down and say you're another age. =)

If the guy is just looking for a one night stand, they would have a problem with it. Any guy who is actually interested and wants to have a healthy relationship will not care.

It would definitely make me question her honesty. However, it has to be understood that when women (especially single women) get to this age, they suffer severe insecurities. They fail to realize that even though they might not have the body of a female in their twenties, their experience and wisdom make up for it. This makes them attractive to the mature male. Which, I am guessing is what they are looking for.

To answer your foremost question, i'd think of her as someone who's asking to be given a chance first before any bias... Well, there are those who just make internet dating sooo difficult, but for those who are sincere yet want to be given fair game, that's what i'd think of them._

Well, it's a little fib, but if she looks younger she probably feels younger, and there's nothing wrong with that. I would say it's okay to reel them in with a picture, but then tell them the truth at their firs face-to-face meeting.

I find it troubling that someone would purposely deceive others. Granted its only age you may say but call me funny...if you lie about something as insignificant as your age...what else aren't you being forthcoming about?

The more you lie...the easier it becomes to continue.

She is lucky that he was so understanding. Honesty is the best policy if you ask me. Especially on the internet. I would have been furious! It would make me question everything else they ever told me.
