I've never understood why we want to separate these as an either:or consideration.

I believe that success depends upon reasonably equal proportions of both education and experience. Someone with one but not the other has only half of the equation.

Consider: In a car, which is more important, wheels or the engine? Reality is that your car takes you nowhere if it doesn't have both.

You can do both. Get a part-time job after graduation and start working on a part-time graduate degree if you are really motivated to do so. But what kind of future career do you want? Self-employed or employee? If the former, you can learn as you go but the entrepreneurial route is riskier and needs more creativity and initiative.

As for Bill Gates, he dropped out of Harvard after two years. But he had already taught himself computer programming before he arrived for college, and, with friends, had already founded several for-profit companies and sold their programming services to a number of clients. With his vision and self-confidence, he probably would never have dreamed of asking a question like yours on Yahoo Answers, had it existed in his early days. Not everyone can or even should be like Bill Gates. Find your own definition of success.

I think success has more to do with experience. I'm taking nursing right now and let me tell you, I'd rather have someone who's actually given an IV ten times give me one than someone who's read about it in a book ten times. Experience is huge, and so is having a good work ethic. Unfortunatly, nothing's easy.
