Both can cause significant hearing loss. I prefer headphones to earphones. Earphones send the sound directly into the hearing canal and the intensity can be more damaging to your long term hearing.

I use my earphones for my Ipod at present but I prefer the big silver headphones!!!

if I am mowing, or doing an activity with lots of background noise, headphones, otherwise earphones work just fine.

earphones because they are better quality and you can have them in one ear instead of two all the time!
