Walled, secure, above ground, with an ocean view, one level. Lots of shelves and places to hang plants and pots in the kitchen, many book cases all over the house, and shelves high up in all rooms for my cats for climb around on. A fireplace or maybe two. Probably three bedrooms; two bathrooms and a connecting garage. Lots of eucalyptus trees all around. My bedroom has an ocean view and a way for the ceiling to be open to the sky. A garden of course, with jasmine, climbing roses, hollyhocks, California poppies, and wildflowers. I can see it now, and its absolutely lovely!

Money is always a problem. You don't want to put $2,000 in to a PC that is only worth $1,000. Start with the motherboard. I use Intel or Asus For the processor and chipsets I like Intel Hard drives - I was a fan of Maxtor until they were acquired by Seagate. So now I am using Western Digital until Seagate proves their reliability. Graphics Cards - You will need to research it. Cards start at around $70 and go up to $800 Power Supply - Antec. They also make good cases. Sound card - get a 5.1. Most people can't hear the difference in the higher. Speakers - check out Bose' Modem - you are building a high speed PC and you want to use dial-up? If you think about what you what you expect to use this for, it will be a lot easier the design.

I would build a Mexican colonial hacienda with an open courtyard and typical hacienda architecture; red tiled roof, adobe, Mexican tiles throughout. Lots of native trees for shade and bougainvillea all over the place. Flowering cactus...
I would want to build it in a semi-arid desert environment....not right in the middle of the desert (I'm not crazy), but near enough to fit the architecture. Or, in a beach community near the Mexican border south of Tijuana...or on the Baja Peninsula.
If money was not an issue, I would also buy a townhouse on the Ocean Liner, ResidenceSea and stay on it all summer...wherever it went.
Would also want a small but cozy cottage in Fort Bragg, CA...near the beach but up the mountain a little bit with GREAT views of the Pacific. I love Fort Bragg....that's where all the old hippies moved to.
Then, there would be the houseboat in Marin County for a coupla months a year.

My little a frame cabin on a hill top in the mountains, room for my helper boy and a covered porch where the chipmunks could come to visit me. There would be a stream close by for water to bathe with and boil for dish washing. A fantastic steel wood stove with a flat top that I can cook on. I got very good at it on the mountain before. The entire front of the A would be windows looking at a cleared area and shhhh, I would put out some salt and mineral blocks for the deer and if need be good hay in the winter. I would leave the amenities behind, even this computer. Back to basics.

Quaint with character, not grand or too modern looking and will have be in keeping with the area - wouldn't want to stick out like a sore thumb. I did think of a bungalow for my advancing years, but the view is different from upstairs, so perhaps a lift for future use. Oh, and must have a porch to the front door, no roses though, wisteria instead. Maybe a small cellar and an attic reached by a proper staircase (fear of heights).

Well, if I could expand this idea a bit, I'd like to build somewhat of a commune for my senior best friends....small little one floor homes with a yard just big enough to do some minor gardening but not too big to be unmanageable..room for a couple guests; a front porch and a back patio or deck; fenced for pets. There would be a 'community hall' for all to amass when the mood struck them for pot lucks or games or just gathering by the fire. We'd have intercom to each other's homes just to check in on each other. No one would ever get lonely or be in need of a friend; yet we'd have all the privacy we would need or want.

This is neat reading the descriptions.
I have a 2 huge bedrooms, 2 medium size offices a medium large kitchen. 4 car garage and work shop with full bath. Hard wood floors, lots of windows and raw beams. Hurricane proof! Only about an acre of land for gorgeous landscaping. Hot tub on deck that surrounds house.

After this week in CA, trust me my "dream home" would NOT be in mountains or near forests.. . In fact, I think I live in mine now..but I still want the money! I would build 30 homes in New Orleans of very modest proportions and let some of those people come back home..the feds are not doint it, so if you want to give me the money, I will do it! Peace and love, Goldwing
And as it is, with 1200 houses burned here, my fire insurance is going to go through the roof (forgive the pun)...insurance pools have dreadful consequences after catastrophies, and this has been a catastrophy ! Phil

I have thought about this many times.
if it was just for me and nobody else mattered,I would have a house halfway down the fla keys.on the gulf side.with a carport UNDER the house, and a yard full of tropical plants/trees. my house would have lots of windows, lots of breezways.a porch ALL the way around, covered except for the area reserved for BBQing.boat ramp and boat, easy access to snorkle areas.tile floors.elevator AND stairs.
4 ft concrete wall around lot. yard full of english mastiffs.
orchid house out back.art studio where I could make as big a mess as I liked.
now that I have grandkids, I'd want my family to each have a simlar house there,in the "compound".

Middle Tn area...A nice secluded home with lots of trees. I like Arts and Crafts style homes and would try to incorporate some of this into the house. I would like for it to be big enough and nice enough to accomodate the family whenever they come to visit. I don't believe in extravagance. There are too many other people in the world who need help and if I had that much money I would want to help as many people as possible.
