Johnny Cash and his group were first named the Tennesee Three. They were then called the Johnny Cash and The Tennessee Two. Later another person was added to the group to formally make them known as Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Three. I need the names of these three musicians as well as the person who suggested they call themselves Johnny Cash and The Tennessee Two. Can you name them without doing a google search???

The original members were Johnny Cash,Luther Perkins,and I believe Marshal Grant..of course perkins died and was replaced by...Wootton(Robert,Bob,Bobbie or something like that) Iknow that someone at Sun records suggested the name change but can not remember who..I think it might have been Sam something.
I grew up listening to these guys and really am amazed that I remember this stuff after so many years.

The Tennesee Three were Luther Perkins (lead guitar), Marshall Grant (bass) and W.S.Holland (drums).
If you want more - Johnny Cash was in the US Air Force from 1950-54. He formed a trio with Luther Perkins and Marshall Grant in 1955.
Johnny Cash at San Queinten topped the US charts in 1969.
In 1997 he announced that he had Parkinson's Disease.
Perkins fell asleep smoking, and died 5/8/68. A brother fell on a chain saw and died. A German girl stuck a pencil in Johnny Cash's ear and made him partially deaf.
He won twelve Grammy Awards, and was induced into the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.

No but Johny Cash although reverred today was considered an "outlaw" of country music. Just like Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, many more...they still made it big because the people loved their stories. Still do.
