I think private schools being better than public schools is one of the biggest myths in education. Parents don't realize the lax standards private schools have when they hire their teachers.
The pay at private schools is horrible and there are less health benefits.... which means they don't attract the best teachers. I speak from personal experience because my best friend is a counselor at a catholic school. Most of the teachers are former accountants, business people, who wanted a career change... but didn't want to go back to school for a teaching degree. No offense to accountants... but what do they know about teaching reading and language acquisition, etc.
For a teacher to be hired by a public school, they need more than a degree... there is a whole certification process and curriculum.
That being said.... depending on the town, public schools can stink too. You have to do your research.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both. With a private school you don't have to deal with as much bureaucracy so the teachers can actually focus on TEACHING. They also have the option of getting rid of any student who causes a problem for them, which means that private school students are less likely to be lost in the crowd because another student is taking up all the teacher's attention. Private schools also often (but not always) have higher standards for graduation than public schools. On the other hand, private schools tend to be small. That means that in some cases, they don't have as much of a variety of classes as public schools do. And having extra attention from the teacher is great, but it makes me wonder how prepared these students will be for college, where they will sometimes be in a class of 300 or so. And last but not least, it's great to know your kids are safe and secure in school, but many of these kids grow up without the understanding of how things are in the real world. I teach at a private school, and while they are good kids, many of them have no clue what goes on outside the walls of their school. They've never met a kid who has to work full time after school to support his drug-addict mother after his deadbeat father abandoned them, and the students who are there because their parents teach there and not because their parents can pay for it, get picked on because they drive a 10 year old Honda instead of a brand new Lexus. Many of them have no idea how lucky they are.
Anyway, my point is, I think every school has its good and bad points. Which is "better" is totally dependent upon what you want out of the school

The one advantage of a private school is that they can kick out any student that is disruptive tot he learning process. If you live in a neighborhood that has students willing and they do good in a state test, then there would probably be no advantage. If you live in a bad neighborhood, then it will be better.

Well It all depends where you live. For example phillips academy in Andover Massachusetts. The president attended this school and so did his father. But people who live there told me that the public schools in that same town are also amazing and just as good.
i hope this clears things up
