My problem is that its my boyfriend's first son and he wants to name our son after him because he too was named after his father. I don't want to seem selfish or anything because I know its a joint decision but I really would love to name my son something else. What should I do?
The two options are:
1. Harry Richard Diggs IV
or
2. Dhani Richard Diggs
Please Help!

Dhani is pronounced Da Hawn ee and I'm considering it because it means thinking man and when I got my 20 week ultrasound my son had his hand on his head and appeared as if he was thinking.

Dhani Richard Diggs, I think it's a nice name, i heard it before,And that's a really cute story about why you are considering it.You talk to you husband.

but I will admit I'm not to fond of kids being named after their parents just because people might mistake him for his father
or he have a lot of pressure to be just like his father and won't have his own identity, I know that sounds crazy but it has happened.

good luck

To be honest, I like Harry better than Dhani (I'm sorry, I see that you've already changed your username for it!). The only reason for that, I guess, is because Harry Diggs sounds better than Dhani Diggs (the alliteration bothers me lol).

However, I'm not really a fan of 'juniors'. I mean, what if you have another son? What about Harry Dhani Richard Diggs? Or just Harry Dhani Diggs?

Anyway, good luck and congrats on your baby!

How about Richard Harry Diggs the first
He will have all the same names as his father, and his own at the same time

I do not like Dhani Diggs, does not go with the last name
Richard Diggs, Ricky Diggs is cute, Harry Diggs is okay

I would let him have his name, but I would try to see if he likes Richard Harry Diggs. I know boys that have there father name like this, he tells everyone he has his dad names, but backwards

I would make the agreement, that he can have Harry Richard or Richard Harry, but you get to name the next child

I don't really like either one of the names very much. Dhani reminds me of a girl's name (I have a friend named Dani.) and Harry, well there are too many mean nicknames associated with that.
I see that both of your names have Richard as the middle name. I don't like the name Richard very much. Sounds old-fashioned and reminds me of a very stingy and strict person.
I don't think it's selfish to not name your son after the father because I agree that it's a joint decision. I hope you two can together come up with a better name than Dhani.

My babys fathers middle name is Harry. He wouldn't tell me what it was. He hates it. I happened to guess what it was when I said it couldn't be something horrible like Harry. I would go with the second name Dhani Richard Diggs.

Maybe you could comprimise with Harrison Richard Diggs. That just puts an updated spin on the name, but it is still close enough to be "named after" him! I don't like Dhani, becuse of the spelling. People will always pronounce it wrong. I like the meaning and the reason behind it, but is ther maybe a different spelling?

good luck and congrats!

How about Daniel Richard Diggs

I can't say I care for the idea of using the exact same name either -- especially carrying it past two generations, which tends to come across as unnecessarily pretentious -- but you might consider using just one of the names (first or middle) or perhaps a form of one of them.

Rather than Harry Richard Diggs IV, you might use Henry (with a different nickname, such as Hal or Hank), Harris or Harrison (literally "son of Harry"). ;)

Hope that helps.
