Some people have ridges in their nails caused by illness, or trauma to the nail bed. A ridge filler will cause the the polish to go on smooth and have a more desired apperance.

Using a base coat will make your regular polish look smoother and shinier. The polish will also be less likely to chip, as it bonds better to the base coat than to your nails. It also seems to make it easier to remove the polish when it's time.

my nails, espeically my toenails, have little ridges in them. and the ridge filler kind of smooths them all out so that my nail polish goes on better.
