For it to be a premeditated abduction the following would have to have occurred.
1) the would have had to have spotted the child over the previous 5 days.
2) over the same time period they would have had to known that the parents left their children every night and had a checking cycle and know what it was.
3) they would have had to have known that the McCanns left the door open.
4) The would have had to have know that the two twins would have stayed asleep rather than waking up and causing a disturbance.
5) They would have had to have known that there would be no witnesses.
6) They would have needed to know about forensics so not as to leave any trace.
7) they would have needed a car
8) Since the reward money so high, the would have needed a secure network that would not grass
Not impossible of course but extremely unlikely compared to the more statistically obvious scenario that it was an accident covered up by a fake abduction.

If we are to believe all we read in the papers then perhaps their room was being watched, their routine monitered and a log kept of who and when the children were checked. As the papers reported that this was not the only time the children were left home alone. In some way this must have been premeditated as how did the abductor know the children would be all alone, all the windows and doors unlocked and which appartment to attack. There prob was a car but parked round the corner so if spotted which would be unlikely as all the adults were miles away then less chance of the number plate being seen and reported.

I don't think it was premeditated. Only one person has seen this 'abductor', and the e-fit she has produced has no facial features. If you had taken a child, you would hide its face to avoid identification by wrapping it in a blanket, and get away as soon as possible. You wouldn't walk brazenly down the street, just carrying the child in your arms. If it was premeditated, the abductor would know how often the McCanns checked on their children, and they certainly wouldn't waste time by walking away. Nothing about this case makes sense anymore, and I just pray that Madeleine is found safe and well.

If they were being watched for days beforehand, why then would an abductor go along a path knowing that they could well bump into one of the parents?
Why not just go out the unlocked patio doors leading onto the road?
And why on earth has Jane Tanners photo fit just come out after all this time?
Must admit at least the egg has hair and legs now!
It's got to be lies!
Jack H, I nearly cried when I read the last bit of your answer! :-(

I personally, dont "Hold Mutch water"?, to the Abductor theory. It sounds Absolutely "All Off".
As someone has already pointed out, Columbo would be very hard pressed on this one. His show only "Takes an Hour", or therabouts, wheras, This horrible, Horrible Situation has lasted (And doest look like It will ever be solved?, for ever).
I feel terrible saying something like this, yet I feel that If Madelaine Is not (At the very least, "The very very least, being well looked after? and has been taken, for all the wrong reasons?, she would be better Not here!!.

As for the first answerer, I disagree, a planned abduction / to order would be done in the easiest way, and they would get a car driver on the job.
Yes, think how the apartment backed on to a road. The car would have been parked there, and child brought out that way, NOT down the path past Jane Tanner (yeah right)

As far as I am aware Jane Tanner is the only person who saw this man carrying a child away. I find it incredible that no-one else saw this.

I doubt it was premeditated. These paedophiles are predators. Whoever took Madeleine saw an opportunity and took it and they were lucky to get away with it (remember that child being abducted from her own bathroom!)

If it was pre planned I'm sure he would of wrapped the child up so she was not visible and held her over his shoulder. But maybe his unfamiliar smell would of roused Maddie and he did not want her to wake.If it was pre meditated wouldn't he of drugged her maybe with chloroform or an injection of an analgesic to make her dopey

Abduction ? Do people still really believe that's what it was then ?planned or otherwise..Surely, a planned abduction would have been co ordinated to perfection and probably had all the kids away..There again,if all the kids had been 'taken',that would have meant more beds to tidy before escaping !!!!
