Halloween is no more evil than say....Easter. Yes, throughout the years it has been used by various and sundry people as a reason to practice dark arts or to be cruel, to taint candy and so forth and so on, but how is that any different than any other day?
I'm a pagan and we participate in Samhain. I light candles in my windows to welcome in traveling spirits, my child goes trick or treating , we only trick or treat at homes of people we know and yes, I'm 33 and STILL dress up.
It's not an evil day or Satans birthday, I don't believe in the devil. Evil yes, the Devil no. Halloween is based in Celtic tradition, as are most of the major holidays that are celebrated aside from Thanksgiving . I've added a link to a great site that explains several holidays we celebrate here.
Just keep in mind, darkness doesn't need a special day okay? So don't sit there and say because it's Halloween that it's evil. The veils between the worlds are thinner then and on All Saint's day, but that doesn't make it "evil".

Some People are misinformed about Halloween. Halloween started way before Christ walked the Earth. It was called the
"Fall harvest Festival", which later became "Samhain" then "All Hallowed Eve", then the Catholic Church, looking to get more members adopted it as "All Hallows Eve". The original Festival had people dressing up in all types of costumes, usually the gods they prayed to, and went around saying prayers for a bountiful harvest the next year and to remember those that had passed away. When the Catholic Church got ahold of it, people were told to dress up so the evil spirits couldn't recognize them and the villages would be passed by as no Humans lived there. Once "All Hallows Eve" came to America it eventually got shortened to Halloween, and became more a Children's night out to ast for Treats, and if you refused they would play a Trick on you. For the past 20 years more Right wing so called "Christian" groups have tried to convince people that Halloween is an evil tradition supporting the Devil and his ways. If these groups had actually dug back far enough into History they would find that the tradition is actually Benevolent and Kind. Most people are happy with the first answer they get and accept it as Gospel, instead of digging deeper and finding out the answers for themselves. So....no...it is not the Devil's Birthday nor is it Evil in any way. Don't let Uneducated small minded people take away your Celebration of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happyness. Enjoy and "TRICK OR TREAT!!!" oh and one more thing, if you don't dress up, you don't get any treats.

People tend to think of Halloween as the Devil's Birthday because majority of the costumes are evil. The truth is that it's not the devils birthday. Bilblically it's considered a pagan holiday. Worship of a worldly event that has nothing to do with Christianity. In the bible it tells you not to worship or celebrate worldly things. Also since many think that Christmas is the actual birthday of Christ then of course the evil day must be the birthday of the Devil. No where in the bible does it give the actual day of Christ or the Devil. Many cultures choose to celebrate holloween because its fun, but not thinking of how children are dressing up like witches goblins and other evil creatures. Its not okay to have kids dress up that way because those things are affiliated with devil worshipers. It's a bad impression on kids.

Because a long time ago the Pagan high priest would dress up as a horned animal and dance around a round a fire (this is called sympathetic magic they would pretend to kill the high priest this was to show the gods that they wanted to have good hunts throughout the winter) later when the Christians wanted to do away with the Pagans they said that this horned being was the devil (this is where the image of the devil having horns and the lakes of fire come from) and all who practiced Paganism were evil. Samhain is the original Halloween and because Christians wanted to do away with everything Pagan they associated this day with the devil until they decided that they could not do away with the Pagans and decided to make that day All Saints Day. Kind of like if you can't beat them Join them.

Who thinks that Halloween is the Devil's B-Day? I have never heard that one before. I know all the Crispies get all up in arms over Halloween being supposedly "Satanic", but Satan never has and never will have anything to do with Halloween. Halloween developed from the Celtic holiday Samhain (pronounced Sow-wain), the night that the barrier between the physical and spiritual worlds came down. THe upside of this was that you could commune with your relatives that had passed away. The downside was, all of he nasty demons from hell could also come and mess with your day. As a precautionary measure, the Celts dressed up as hobgoblins and other scary creatures, in order to deter the roaming demons from possessing them. After Christianity displaced the Druids in Ireland, Samhain was adapted by the Catholic church, and became Hallowmas, or All Hallow's Eve. When the Irish came to America in the 1840s as a result of the potato blight, they brought the tradition with them. And we Americans, just as we have with every other holiday, ha ve turned it into a huge commercial enterprise.

It is not the devil's b-day. This is a cult that started with the pagans and is to honor and worship a god that is not God. He used to be offered human sacrifices, babies to be exact and they used to wear costumes and dance and be loud so they would't hear the babies crying and screaming... they belived that when the spirits came, if they had costumes on they wouldn't recognized them and leave and also they would mak a path with the jack-o-lanterns for them to go away from the town. I'm a christian as well and in my church we celebrate with the kids since is a tradition and we don't want to make things more complicated for the kids, we celebrate but we don't use 'bad' costumes, like devil, or witches, or dead people... but istead of angels, princesses, animals... and we have plenty of candy, which if it is the final reason for the whole thing is nothing bad... and is all in your heart, depending on what your intentions are...

Because people are simpletons living in the Dark Ages. So what if Halloween originated in Ireland hundreds of years ago? So what if the corrupt church of Rome uses superstition to control people, power and money? So what if fundamentalist Christians want you to poop your pants at the mention of the word devil? They want you to poop at the mention of "God" too. Come into the real world, give up the fantasy talk. There is no devil. There is no tooth fairy. There is no Easter Bunny. There is no God. Get over it, you're all on your own.

Have a nice day!

Because they need to create a rationalization for their hate campaign. They claim that Halloween is a specially Satanic holiday. What's a specially Christian holiday? Christmas, they claim. Why is Christmas celebrated? Jesus's birthday, they claim. So what can be more primitively, superstitiously satisfying than to decide Halloween must be the opposing birthday of the opposing spiritual figure?

Why do people think of Halloween as the devil's birthday?

Because there are some really stupid people out there.
They should read about the history of the holiday..

Halloween started with the Celts... They celebrated the death of their ancestors on the day we know as Halloween.. Then along came a bunch of christians that didn't like their beliefs and turned their version of Halloween into some satanic mumbo jumbo b.s... christians told the celts that they were going to go to the supposed place of fire if they kept celebrating their beloved holiday.. The celts kept celebrating their version of Halloween. When christians realized that they were not going to stop, the christians started killing the celt's priests one by one to instill their illness upon the celts... So, basically what it comes down to is that the christians are the ones that made Halloween into what we see today... The satanic mumbo jumbo B.S. that they claim it to be. The christians turned it into the satanic bunch of crap that we have come to know as Halloween. Halloween is about celebrating our ancestors who have passed on... Not some stupid made up devil that's going to fry you crispy brown for all eternity..

It's just scare tactic to get you to conform to christianism or should I say "BLACKMAIL" you into christianism. Oh oops. Did I say that??

If you look at the history of christianism, you'll notice how a lot of innocent people have died because of their stupid beliefs...

If you read the book that I recommended below, you'll also learn about how christian's didn't even know the birthdate of their beloved christ. So they took the celebration date of another celt's holiday. December 25th.. The celebration of a celtic God called Mirtha and changed it to (you guessed it) christmas...

Remember what it says in the bible.. "thou shalt not lie." and also.. "thou shalt not kill." For that matter, christians really should take their own advice.

So, please people.. Go out there and search for the truth about the holidays that you have grown to believe because you'll be amazed at the information you'll discover about holidays... Trace things back especially before christ.. You'll be amazed at the the information you'll find.. So, have a safe and Happy Halloween...

If we all the know the history to halloween, and we know that it was not a good thing, why participate in something that is not good. Anything bad is always use with a temptation, and if candy is the solution to why we just want to celebrate halloween, we are in trouble
