this story in the news, about a knife crime every 24 minutes
seems to me, as a bit of scare mongering
here are my calculations
60 minutes(1 hour)
divided by 24 minutes = 2.5 crimes
2.5 crimes x 24 hours in the day = 60 crimes a day
60 crimes a day x 365 days in the year
(not including leap years) = 21900
estimated population of uk 60,776,238
according to google
so 60,776,238 population divided by crimes in a year 21900
2775.1706 years till you are a victim of knife crime
also you may be a victim twice,
so every one is pretty safe i think
what are your views?

As you show by playing with the numbers, it might seem so.

However, most people reading this headline will not be doing the calcualation, and the banner line will sell newspapers, or perhaps it will strengthen a political or lobby group seeking some advantage from this method of advertising.

Spin doctoring is not unknown in the media.

those are advice taken from finally. There is in simple terms no longer waiting to be likely that many knife attacks taking position, because of truth if there have been, shall we all be victims at a lengthy time period or yet another. those human beings take stats for some hours an afternoon over a week era, and say that those topics ensue always... lame

these are statistics taken from one day. There cannot be possibly that many knife attacks going on, because if there were, we would all be victims at some time or another.
these people take stats for a few hours a day over a week period, and say that these things happen all the time...

Over reaction - yes, safe in the main yes I think so. I was surprised when I watched local TV news to find that a minor was used in a sting operation on certain stores who sold him kitchen and steak knives, apparently it is illegal to do so. Is this over reaction with knives as it was with guns when law abiding people obeyed the laws and criminals still obtained their weapon of choice; yes I think so. However whatever can be done by adults to stop young people obtaining knives for either their protection or misuse must be done. When the dead are dead it is the loved ones they leave behind who must suffer and try to come to terms with their loss. So whatever numbers are juggled to make us statistically safe it is still the little people who get hurt. Have you ever thought of looking at car incidence statistics - no body ever suggests banning cars because they kill?!

if we had one person being struck down every 24 minutes with a disease that we actualy had a vaccination againced there would be an outrage. well Knife crime is a disease efecting our civil liberty. the vaccination is a sentence that will make the offenders @rse go boo!!.......not one that will finnance him to go and buy a bigger knife......if the thugs knifed the do gooder fools that placed this nightmare in our midst. i would have no complaints at all. WARNING!!! MISS PLACED HUMAN RIGHTS CAN CAUSE A SOCIAL CANCER.

The truth shines through!

This is the same kind of scare tactic used in the U.S.

Good to see, as expected, that the U.K. has sharp individuals paying close enough attention to 'cut through' the nonsense.

Want to live here? We could use you.

What are the chances that the attacked would be killed by the crime anyway?

Not that crime is good, but still.

the perception of crime is ALWAYS higher than actual levels of crime...

reporting crime raises awareness, and causes anxiety, which in turn fills the bank balances of those who sell security products... to those who dont need them, and are merely paranoid...

common sense tells us that the streets arent awash with blood...

I think someone has an agenda to strip the British of all their rights and of all their means to resist criminal violence.
