cats and dogs both smile especially when their person does something stupid like fall on their behind or pet them a long time. Horse's laugh at you by curling their lips and make a noise deep in their throat when you spill water on yourself or bump your head.

Animals most certainly smile. My cats smile. Animals know two things: they know love and they know fear. When they are loved by their people they smile a lot, but when they are abused their smiles go away.
