With many people it's the fear of success, not failure!

It can definitely become a roadblock if you let it. I know in my case I was always taught that if you wanted something badly & tried hard enough, you could achieve it. Then I had my first experience @ failing out of a college program, even though I tried my hardest. That was 4 years ago & I still can't commit to a major because I fear that I will spend more time & money on something that I will fail at again. So I guess my answer to this is yes, fear of failure can keep you from trying if you let it.

it has in the past. I can remember a few times when I was a kid that I gave up with out trying for fear of failing, but as I got older I realized that those fears where foolish that revelation made me stronger, now I'm just obstinate enough to not fear anything.

Nope. Like they say, you miss the shots that you don't take. Only way you'll ever succeed is if you try. Failure is part of life, it helps you learn and become a better person.

Fear is a useless feeling. It stops you from doing something you want to do, something you will probably end up doing down the track anyway. The only thing you have lost, is time spent worrying about it.

"Trying" in itself implies failure, otherwise you would be 'succeeding' not 'trying.'

Depends on the situation. Sometimes there is fun in the 'trying,' sometimes the 'trying' is simply too trying.

I do, however, have the philosophy "It is amazing what you can do when you don't know you can't do it." So, I try to keep myself as ignorant as possible. ;-)
