As long as 'in God we trust' remains deeply entrenched in American psyche (religion or not),an American president shall have to be Christianity friendly if not a devout Christian himself.Collective social psychology takes more than one generation to alter, change or get modified.Nobody calls history or it's derived effects as stupid ,how so ever outdated they may be.Such facts are a class by themselves and we all have to learn to live with them, even if we dislike or hate them. What do you say?

No. Not scary and not stupid. People should vote for leaders based on whatever criteria they think is important. If your stance is Anti-Iraq-War, then you should vote for an anti-war candidate. If Christianity is a central focus of your life, then it's perfectly okay to want to elect a Christian President. Since well over 70% of Americans claim to be Christian . . . the rest is natural.

Actually, no.... and I fail to see the logic of your statement. In any society chose and/or follow those that have a similar belief system. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. Why should I take orders from someone that is diametrically opposed to my world view? His ideas are better than mine just because he *wants* power over me? You, sir, are in error.

does it not even enter your mind that christianity is the dominate religion of this country? different sects...yes...but, depending on the stats you read between 76% and 78% are christian.... by yonkers! even CBS says only 4% of us are non-christian....

would it then make sense for us to elect an ayatollah? *lol* i think not...

If you want to be a successful politician, you have to appeal to the voters. In 1960, many people were very suspicious of Kennedy’s Catholicism and there was a lot of anti-Catholic campaigning against him. Kennedy tried to allay their fears and was mostly successful.

As the country progresses and becomes more open-minded, politicians won’t have to pander to religious prejudices.
