J, It's really simple:
If you are seeing the lightning, it's not striking you.
If you hear thunder, the bolt of lighting has already passed.
See...
Nothing tae fear, so get out from behind the sofa. ;-)

I'm in th UK as well and, yeh, I know what you mean - thunder and lightening can be a bit scary. Because its so powerful and loud, it can freak me out a bit and I used to be very scared. Now though, I just think its exhilarating and exciting. I get very anxious at the electric part - worried for my house etc. but look at it this way - its the lightening that is the bad part, the thunder is just the exciting loud part and can do nothing to hurt you. :) Storms don't happen often where I am and its mainly sheet lightening which isn't as dangerous, so I see it more as a thrilling phemonema (can't spell that word!) than a terrifying experience. You may want to watch a DVD or something, or listen to music while its happening, or phone someone who doesn't mind the company. I don't think that what you do is a huge over-reaction at all though, I mean I still prefer storms during the daytime when it seems less dangerous. Hoep this helps, and that not too many storms head our way in the heat! xx.

im not scared of it. Usually, i think of it as a bowling alley. God is up in Heaven, and the thunder is him throwing the ball in the lane, and the lightening is the lights flickering in the bowling alley. If im home alone, i would get a little spooked out, because i dont want the power to go off, and im all lonesome.

I only get a fright when I'm not expecting it, like a little while ago there was a huge crack of thunder (even my cats ran to hide!) although I didn't see any lightning.
At least now I know that it's gonna storm, I'm not too worried.
In fact I will probably go out on my patio to watch it!

i love it, my mum on the other hand is scared to death of it, she will hide down the bottom of her hallway where there are no windows and close her eyes and put her hands over her ears, it must be horrible for her but it is quite funny to watch. She has also hid in my brothers wardrobe when we all lived at home. She is 68 and says it's because of all the old wives tales she used to be told when she was little.

I used to be really scared of those two, but now I enjoy thunderstorms. Except when I'm alone at night because the power might go off any moment!

when i was younger, i used to have an allergic reaction to the increase in ozone during a storm,
thankfully i've grown out of it.
i love an entertaining blinding, crashing & loud thunder-storm.
i laugh now when i remember what we used to say as kids
" it's god moving the furniture & changing his light-bulbs "
or " having his coal delivered "
or " it was thor having a barny with the rest of the norse gods".
god having his coal delivered, hee hee hee hee hee
how very 20th century!

Not me, I love it. I love to stand outside during a dramatic storm.
