It all honesty I hope Joe Girardi gets the job...He has proved himself as a good manager look at what he did with the Marlins...Don Mattingly is a Yankee icon he but I really don't think he should get the manager's title on the fact that he is a Yankee Icon.....He should stay as a bench coach wait a few years get some more experience on the coaching staff before he takes over as the new manager...Tony Pena is another prooven manager look at his stats with KC he did a good job but I don't think he has the "FIRE" that is needed to succeed in NY...Remember what Hank or Hal stated in the paper last week "Whoever the new manager is remember to be patient with him this is a rebuilding process he is not being handed the 1996 team" What a shot below the belt...Yeah this isn't the 1996 team OK but this team has what it takes to be champs....Whoever they hire will be under the gun not only by fans but the NY media, and Yankee brass....If the boss has the final say in this I think then Don Mattingly is the new manager!!!

Signs are pointing to JG.
He has the experience, which is needed when you have a group of guys who have larger than normal egos (not blazing on the Yanks, but it is obvious they do have some big egos on that team).
The next choice for the Yanks would be Pena. He would get the Yankees through the next couple "transition years".
What I mean by that is getting Mattingly ready for the long term job. JG or TP will be the manager for the next 2-3 years and then Mattingly should become the manager for the long term after that.

The logical choice would be Joe Girardi. First, he's the only one of the three with managerial experience. Now we've all heard that Joe is a control freak and will not get along with the Steinbrenner clan. WHO DO YOU KNOW THAT GETS ALONG WITH THEM!!! He is also a no nonsense guy. Well, maybe that's what some of the players need. I can think of Bobby Abreu who can drag his butt from time to time not to mention his attitude when he's not in the lineup. (He became a real problem in the Phillies locker room).
Donny Baseball has said on more than one occasion that he's not interested because he feels he's not ready to manage. Whether "Hank the Yank" makes him an offer he can't refuse, remains to be seen. He is at least detached from the present players via his retirement after the 1995 season.
Tony Pena, at least in my mind, is a non factor. Pena represents the "minority interview" and nothing more. Pena is not managerial material anyway. Maybe some day but not at the present.

Joe Giraidi will be Signed and Don Mattingly will leave the organization for quite a while. Tony Pena will be mad and might just leave.
Joe will be signed to a three year deal contaning 6 million all together.

I have a feeling Don Mattingly is the choice. I beieve the reason why is that as a freshman manager the yankee brass will easiy be able to control Don. The Yankee organization needs to be in control at all times. Joe Girardi, my choice, is his own man and likes to be in control. Thats why he won't be given the post.

Ok, in my honest opinion, i think Joe Girardi is the man for the job. He has one more world series than the other two candidates combined. He can get a job wherever else he wants, and Cashman, and Hank Steinbrenner agree on the manager, and Cashman has already said that he likes Girardi the best.Girardi brought the Marlins to an ok season imagine what he can do for the yankees! And also he has that fire in him that the Steinbrenners love.

A.) I don't think JG wants the job...don't think he's ready for the pressure in NY and is worried about his family.
B.) Donnie Baseball doesn't have the experience to take the team through the next couple of "transition" years(which will be rough for us true fans).
C.) So Pena who has been around for a while and is not a big celeb in NY is the logical choice to get the job, but only for the short term.
In 2-3 years DM will get the job.

Girardi is my first choice,if I were the Steinys...why did Ron Guidry not get offered it?--he would be perfect for it(handle the pitchers good and knows how to handle the hitters).Mattingly would be good, but like everyone has said, his experience is not there...we know by hiring Alan Tramell in Detroit, don't hire a hero--hire a leader!

I know the Royals don't count to most people, but Tony Pena did manage that team for a few years.
And, best of all, he didn't tell the owner to shut the f___ up, either.
Not a bad attribute, really.

Mattingly...these kids of stiennie want to shoot from the hip, roll the dice, get lucky, and then think they are great baseball minds..Donny is a great dude, of course, but they'll pick him now 'cause they do not really have a thought process and refuse to look at suggestions....Maybe one of them should do it up front instead of from behind the scenes..
