2 things.
1 : It's ILLEGAL to copy protected commercial DVDs, and the protection makeds it harder to do (but it can be done assuming you simply want a "using copy" to keep original safe)

2 : U can get external HDD and DVDRW, but if the laptop is that old, might onlt have USB 1.1 ports, and to run these you're really want USB2, so probably more cost effective to buy a new laptop with large hard drive and a DVDRW built in.

To be honest Samantha I would get a new laptop...most come with DVD rw as standard...by the time you have all the external hard drives, re writers and wiring...you may as well have a brand new machine...they don't have to cost the earth either....some reasonable bargins to be had....maybe best to wait for the pre or post Christmas sales...or drop a hint as to what you would like for a present....unless of course this is the hint.

Honestly, you're better off getting a desktop to burn DVDs. For a laptop and that kind of hard disk space you got, you'd have to get an external hard drive and an external DVD+/-RW drive.

It must be a really old system to have 4G drive. My old unit that I bought 8 years ago had a 30G. If there is 4G free, that is different. You can purchase an external drive and DVD burner that will plug into the USB ports. Check this site.
