My daughter has had an awful few weeks, first the ear infection, and now gastro. She's had it since wednesday night (now sunday night), and it's not getting any better at all, in fact, it seems worse. She's had her poop samples sent off, and we're just waiting for some results. The poor girl can hardly keep anything down , and she's pooped every half an hour or so today. She is thirsty beyond belief as well. I'm so worried about her, what else can I do to help her?

If she is on formula make her a bottle with same amount of water as u would normally put in but only half the amount of scoops in so say instead of 4 just put 2, that way she is getting some nutrients and fluids but only offer her 50ml every half hour, because its usually with a full belly they bring it up,
if she still wont keep that down soak a facewasher in cooled boiled water and give it to her to suck on,
and buy those gastrolite icypoles from the chemist, my chemist paharmacies are usuallly open till 12.

but if you feel she is getting worse through the night call nurse on call 1300606024 they can help a bit more and will tell you whether to take her to ed.
hope she gets better soon

Both my kids had this last week. I just made sure they kept drinking water. I boiled the water first and let it cool. You can get a rehydration mix from the chemist called gastrolyte. It comes in icey pole form too so kids quite like them or just a powder mix that you make into a drink. The main thing is to make sure she doesn't get dehydrated. So if she is showing any sign of dehydration off to the hospital with you.

Drinking more water or taking medications to soften her stools. But Im sure your Doctor will give you something.

I have a 17mth old and when he was about 6-7mths OMG he had not pooped for 2 days and we used K-RO to soften it and hopefully come out we waited a night and it didnt help he never went. So then we called the Doctor and she gave us this stuff I forget what it's call but to put up his butt and we did that he pooped alittle but I guess not good enough because that night he was pushing, and pushing, and PUSHING!! Well when i changed his diaper i looked at his butt and he had a Rock hard poop trying to come out but it was STUCK and he started bleeding so my husband called the doctor at like 3am and they had us get this Medication called Lactulose to help him go poop and it really helped. He past a hard stool but after that we still had to give him the meds for 2-3 days and then he was all better.
