Does anyone know how to test the bandwidth of your wifi connection. I know you can use online testers fo check your overall speed but I would like to know how well my wifi link is working.

No, perhaps I asked the question wrongly. I know the connected speed is 54Mbps. What I want to know is how well that 54Mbps is being used as no-one will ever transfer data at 54Mbps across a 54Mbps wifi link

You might try "The Dude" it is a "wifi mapping" program that we use for network monitoring of Wifi links. It will show the devices and the speeds of the units on your system

It shows speed of each link although I am not sure how totally accurate the answer might be it is a good tool and I think close to the true bandwidth of the wireless untis..

There also are some speedtests that can be downloaded and installed on your local machine (similar to speedtest.net etc) they will probably be more accurate for your system.

there are several downloadable speed tests and managers for you..

54Mbps is the connection speed between your access point (AP) and your pc/laptop. The actual data rate depends on the traffic on the internet and the distance where your data is to be fetched.
Testing data rate may vary from ISP to ISP that is hosting the testing program.
You can try several online bandwidth testing program. List down the results and do some computation (averaging).
I hope this may help you figure out how your connection is doing.

The connection speed is the bandwidth.
