I've had a recent problem with my mouse being able to break the extreme borders of the desktop (occasionally left, sometimes right); I've adjusted my monitor, an E176FP flatscreen from Dell, to appropriate settings (res 1280x1024x32, refresh rate at 60), but my mouse is still able to head off the screen (taking its time getting back).
The problem is irritating, and support hasn't been able to troubleshoot my problem.

Sorry to forget to add something quite critical - my display adapter is an ATI Radeon 9250, single monitor configuration.

Make sure "extended desktop" is turned off, it might be that windows thinks you have a 2nd monitor that it's trying to utilise
