Good question!

Of course a dashed hope does cause very deep pain, since it affects our purpose..... but the deepest pain to me is when my own ego or pride or self-esteem is hurt by my own action and I have to take the entire blame on myself..... and this happens in the case of a true repentance. When I was very young, I wouldn't cry for anything, but whenever I felt the pangs of true repentance, I always burst into uncontrollable tears in remorse.

Your question, as I interpret it concerns the highly important concept of the spiritual importance of experiencing "pain in the deepest form." Surely Jesus on Good Friday who was betrayed, falsely accused and murdered is the great master in teaching us about pain in the deepest form. But more importantly Jesus teaches that his great sacrifice made for love brings the light of resurrection and the victory over all pain and darkness. In Jesus's time and through all time even in the mist of the Holocaust the lives of many of the martyred Saints have shown us the manner in which love triumphs over indescribable pain. As described by Saint John of the Cross in Dark Night of the Soul the pain and our deliverance from this pain is gained through the love of our infinitely wise and wonderful God and is therefore a great blessing. The timeless nature of this lesson is provided in the 2,500 year old Chinese Yin and Yang symbol because there exists in the very heart of the dark side the light which is our God who redeems us from the dark side and restores to the light.

Hi Third P.

My hope is never frustrated, thank God.

I do feel pain, as any human will, both physical & emotional. I will feel pain, itself, in its deepest form. I will experience it, work through it, pray to God about it & meditate.

However, I never lose hope.

There is always hope, whether it is in this life or for the life to follow, in Heaven, with God.

Peace.

When I am frustrated, hope has diminished, I am extremely depressed, but only momentarily. I refuse to submit to the darkness of fear and/or despair. My faith brings me refuge through prayer, meditation and empowering my beliefs through optimism. There is forever and always hope even unto the deepest vortex of life.

Not always. The key word here is "frustrated" (not extinquished). Sometimes I'm able to move beyond that and keep my hope alive for the future. Sometimes, I can see that it's useless and time to move on.
