Would it be fair?
Well, let's see -
The Russians, who share a border with Iran and have influence there, are angry with us.
The Chinese, who lent us the money to fight this war AND want to do business with or without us in the rest of the world, think we have lost our minds.
Just at the moment when we think maybe things are settling down in Iraq, maybe the surge is working, we have a general say he's been instructed to do "absolutely nothing" about Kurdish attacks on Turkey, and the Turks continue to mass troops on the border to deal militarily with issues we seem ill equipped to deal with diplomatically.
We are trillions of dollars in debt. No matter what happens in the next election, the next generation is going to be sorting out foreign policy tangles and paying off the debt we've incurred.
We have done nothing to stabilize our energy consumption, let alone break our dependency on foreign oil.
The suggestions to "break our dependency on foreign oil" that HAVE been put forward are to despoil wilderness or dig more domestic wells, not actually change any technology or encourage any alternatives. And those suggestions generally run into stiff opposition from people who do not expect to be raptured in the next couple of weeks, and want to leave something unspoiled for their own children.
While the Chinese push their own industries to make electric cars, we put a new coat of wax on our Hummers.
We have done nothing to reduce federal spending, and have also attempted to "make permanent" tax cuts to the richest Americans.
We have continued to ship domestic production capabilities to foreign shores. We may pat ourselves on the back and say how innovative we are, but the jobs just keep trickling away.
We have still developed NO actual policy to deal with climate change. Regardless of what the cause is, it's still a disaster waiting to roll onto our shores.
We can rest easy that a child in a family of 4 with an income in the mid $70,000 is not going to get a break on insurance, but then, neither is the child in a family of 8 making about $40K.
NCLB has mandated testing and testing and testing, but the results of the tests are still not standardized from state to state, and what "passes" in one state may not reach a "passing level" in another. There is still not actual basic content list of things a kid ought to know how to do or be able to understand at a particular grade level except those issued by the local school districts or the individual states. The cost of educating goes up, but the quality of the education isn't even discernible in many cases.
The whole thing gives me a headache.
Is it "fair" to characterize the current administration in a poor light?
It would be irrational, partisan, or unrestrained naiveté to characterize it in any other light.
Edit - I changed the last line. It was an overstatement by even lax YA standards. This subject really does give me a head ache. Iceman, I don't always agree with you, but I always love you. :*

Actually, why leave off the T? This administration is doing its best to scare us all out of our freedoms. I admit he's stupid, but he's also evil -- he's not a good man who's trying to do right and failing; he's an ambitious man who thinks no one is human but those who happen to be rich.

I disagree. Mr. Bush was elected to govern. He does not reign. Mr. Bush is a good man. He has done some things I agree with and some things I don't agree with. There have been no errors. He does what he thinks is best for the country.

then you need to seriously rethink it. by partisaning this forum your implying that clinton did a good job if you characterize him as the...opposite...of bush
- The only president ever impeached on grounds of personal malfeasance
- Most number of convictions and guilty pleas by friends and associates*
- Most number of cabinet officials to come under criminal investigation
- Most number of witnesses to flee country or refuse to testify
- Most number of witnesses to die suddenly
- First president sued for sexual harassment.
- First president accused of rape.
- First first lady to come under criminal investigation
- Largest criminal plea agreement in an illegal campaign contribution case
- First president to establish a legal defense fund.
- First president to be held in contempt of court
- Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions
- Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions from abroad
- First president disbarred from the US Supreme Court and a state court
and i find that scary...very scary.
no its not fair to characterize that, its skewed, and thats being charitable.

Nice turn of phrase!
I think history will not be kind to our Naked Emperor.
This is an old piece, but it is still interesting -- perhaps more so because of its age and its content:

That's the problem. You tried to think. You haven't the equipment for such heavy work. You had better rest. That thought must have tired you tremendously.
