Have got HP3100 running fine on my parallel laptop with windows me.
Now the problem is , i have upgraded to Windows XP laptop but with only usb ports.
I have bought a usb to cable which connects to standard cabble of the printer. (the cable has a usb port and a female parallel on the other)

My windows xp do detect the printer and attempts to install it, even i have installed the jetsuite already. during that new hardware installation it ask for the file which are on the c, on providing those files, it continue for some instants and end up saying the "operation has some errors and cannot continue" i also tried to print off by jetsuite, but doesnot help either.
I have tried to change ports one by one and still did not work. I did bought a USB docking for parallel port, which comes to the same point and gives up.
Please suggest, what should i do, to work with my window xp by usb cable.
is there are any usb cable driver available form hp or somewhere which helps to run the printer

DO NOT connect printer initially.
Install the cable ONLY, and power on PC, when it detects the cable install the software it comes with to let it create the "virtual" LPT port (Read it's docs on the CD to be sure) and it should tell you on completion what port it's created on.

Install driver as a standard local printer on LPT1, but then once installed go to printer folder and right click printer, select properties.
Choose the ports tab, and UNTICK the LPT1 port and enter the tick in the psot the new USB-Parallel cable made

Now close the properties box after saving (click OK) and try a test print direct from printer (right click / properties) and it should work
