With single mothers taking partners and real dads vanishing off the scene, would it not be a good idea for all newborn childrens DNA to be taken so that the real father can be pinpointed in parental issues. A DNA bank would also bring down the cost of DNA testing in future and also the child can know who his father really is. As the law stands, only birth certificates and the mothers word is taken as proof of fatherhood, which is no proof whatsoever. Yes! I know there are dangers, but with nothing to hide there is nothing to fear.

This samples are already taken, just never used as it should be. It is dangerous for there are those who would abuse it. Like Identity theft - until there is a true definate protection of this, can it be trusted?

I don't think that it would ever work since even though you may pin point the real father, they may still not be there to help deal with the parental issues. There are some father's (I'm not saying all, so don't get me wrong) that wouldn't step up to the plate no matter if there were DNA or not, they would do what they wanted any way.

While the cost of DNA may go down, and that would be good I don't see this as some thing that's going to happen any time soon.

As far as only the birth certificates and the mothers word being taken as proof of fatherhood, that's not always the only way. Some children look so much like their fathers that it doesn't even make sense. So that DNA isn't even needed to be able to tell, because all you need do is look at the child and the dad and you can see the child is theirs.

Of course if people have nothing to hide then they don't have any thing to fear, that is very true. But some people don't want to be a part of their child's life and they will do all that they can do to avoid being a parent. And that is so sad to do to the child.

I guess all you can say is welcome to our world where nothing is ever perfect and never will be for any of us, because we are filled with flaws as humans and yes that's sad !

Yea, you have a good idea. The only problem is that no one wants to foot the bill to take, analyze, and store DNA from EVERY child who is born. And that doesnt include the time or money it would take to maintain and protect the data base. Can you even imagine if someone hacked that database and switched your DNA sample on there for someone like Jeffery Dahmer? How about a pedofile's? That way when they comit a crime, they can leave behind all the DNA evidence they want, and the cops come crashing through your door. Then even more money would have to be spent getting a new DNA test for you as well as looking for the security breach.

The problem with today's relationships or marriages is that most do not make the Lord part of theirs.
As to the DNA...It may be helpful, but they do have a way of proving fatherhood by doing blood tests. This is something that has been done for a veery long time now.

If a man takes on any single mother surely he should be classed as their dad, if the marriage of the real parents has collapsed usually the real dad keeps in touch, usually only the single parents of one night stands dissappear in which case if he can`t be arsed staying around for the child he`s not worth bothering with anyway, you aren`t going to get any money out of him

I think that is an excellent idea. It would cut down on crime also. A DNA bank would be just the ticket for a lot of issues, such as accidents and disasters and such Very good question. I also feel, if you father a child, you should support the child.
