However you approach this, you will need to use a little diplomacy, so as not to offend her (no pun intended).
As a few people have said just tell her, I would start by telling her I mean no offense, but you may need to change her brand of deodorant, as your not smelling as nice as you usually do (it maybe a lie but remember she is a friend and you don't want to upset her).
If she has a medical condition that causes the body odour, then be sympathetic, and don't push the issue further, as she may well feel very self conscious as it is.
If she can not afford to buy it, then why not buy her a lovely body care pack/hamper with some deodorant in it for Christmas.
Remember diplomacy is the key here!
Good luck

DO NOT DIRECTLY TELL HER!
That would be a bit embarrassing for both of you.
What you should do, is go to the Body Shop, or Fruits and Passions, one of those stores, and get her like a nice basket of lotions, deodarant, and the perfumes, ok? And she should be using that stuff, and if she doesn't then just hint to her that she should start.
Be sutble, at the very least. And if you don't want to either hint to her, or buy her anything, then well LIVE WITH IT! I guess, she either doesn't know she stinks, or she just really doesn't care.

i know u dont prolly wanna be mean about it....but honestly just tell her and in the nicest way that u can. Im sure they prolly wanna hear from u than a stranger.....just tell her I really dont mean to be mean and dont take this in the wrong way...but you should really start putting some deoderant on. She might be mad...but seriously she will be alright...tell her.

Maybe she is allergic or can afford it?
Maybe she wants to avoid the bad chemicals in it.
Try giving her a bath and body basket set with a (healthfood store purchased) bar of deodorant in it to her for the holidays
OR write a kind but to the point note and send into her without saying who it's from

Tell her, "hey have you smelled the new Dove deodorant that they just came out with?" (Or any brand that may be new out there)
Tell her she ought to try it and see what she thinks of it.
Tell her that you had smelled this wonderful smell and found out it was a woman's deodorant.

uhh to judy06, yes it is a must use daily item. Just ask her what deodorant she uses and then if she says she doesn't use one then like look surprised and say like really? and then maybe she will get the hint lol

Buy 3 or 4 different brands and leave one on her desk each day. She should get the idea.

Be a gentleman and suck it up! Women have to put up with our stench all the time!
Or... you could buy tag body spray and... spray her when she's not looking? Wow that... sounded wrong on so many levels...
But seriously... just suck it up! Haha. Good luck to you, sir, and your olfactory nerves!
