Have you ever seen one? I've seen seals off the coast of South Shields but that's the most exciting marine life I've encountered.

There have been sightings but no real proof. It is possible and some have been caught off the coast of France less then 100-miles from our shores, so who knows.. I love sharks!

Some years ago there was a basking shark in the water at Southend. I remember going on the pier to see it. All I saw was a huge dark shadowy thing. Even though I know they are harmless I've never been in the sea since.
Shame as I had only just recovered from seeing the film "Jaws"!
Today there is a colony of seals that can be seen on the mud flats in the summer.
If anyone answers that there are Great Whites out there then that will even stop me going for a paddle!!!!!

Yes, they have been known to venture as far north as the arctic circle. I saw a documentary where scientists electronically tagged great whites and tracked their movements. They have been tracked off the coast of the British Isles and even further north.

Come to South Africa, we have plenty great whites and they are unique as they breach (Dive out of the water like whales)
Think the water in Britain is a tad cold for them, they prefer the warmer water.

Yes there are...they have been documented....have seen Whales in Alaska and Seals, Dolphins, Orcas, Otters....Oh and a turtle.

Great whites do visit our shores in the summer months following the gulf stream but they never stay for long

There were reports around June- July this year about sightings in Cornwall... not seen one myself though...
