Boy, I'm sure there are millions of people who want a hard answer to this question. Very good question!
Unfortunately, media sources are far too biased. There are probably a few ways that would shed a LITTLE light, although it wouldn't be a total illumination:
If you can, talk to veterans, soldiers, civilians, and other persons who have actually been to Iraq or are in Iraq. Some might have blogs, websites, or other places where you can find their testimony, pictures, or perhaps even videos. I'll give you a link to one I'm familiar with.
Another avenue would be to analyze statistical data from a source that is known to be either bi-partisan or non-partisan. You could look at data over a period of time and track improvements in military deaths, civilian deaths, attack counts, etc. One good place that does this exact thing is the Brookings Institute.
This might help give you a glimpse. I hope it helps!

To find an impartial view on Iraq, the authors must have the truth as to what is going on in Iraq. Many Americans have not been told the truth and the few who have heard it are skeptical or feel that nothing can be done.
To find an impartial view, you, too, need to know and understand truth. And when you do find that impartial view, I hope that you and others learn before it's too late!

I think the best view of whats really happening in Iraq is to get it from the Iraqi people, and OUR soldiers. You never see them talking or asking a soldiers opinion on the progress made in Iraq!..Ever!
If the situation was as hopeless as the Media makes it to be, than why are the soldiers that are giving up their lives everyday, against Hillary being President!!!??? A person who wants to take them out of Iraq?
Something has never seemed correct about what we are hearing from the media?
No positives! Ever! I mean during this period of time we have been there, Have they built more schools, better water...??
I say the opinions need to come from the local (Non terrorist) people and our soldiers!!!!
Crap on all the damn media!
Want the truth...Get it from our SOLDIERS!

NO!
We're not starting to win now or when we started the war. This war will go on for years and be a drain on the United States military combatants and material and the nations economy for many years. The infrastructure of the country has been destroyed. As soon as something is repaired or rebuilt it becomes a target for either side when it falls into a combat zone or is simply destroyed by Iraqi unhappy with their government or the United States. Seventy percent of Iraqis want the United States to leave their country.
Hate to be a drain on your enthusiam, hopes and dreams but that's the way it is. Iraq is a shambles and will have to be supported for decades and defended from intrusions from other neighboring countries. The whole middle east is fragile and nervous and has been for the last five years. This is Bush's war and he has warned that it could be the beginning of WW111. I believe it because the Republicans support him and this war and they carry the torch for this Republican Administration. I have no idea what the Democrats are doing and I'm not sure they do either!
Thanks

Based on the answers to your question most of the people answer according to how they want the war to go. The only way I have found to get an answer about what is happening in Iraq is to talk to a military person who has been over there .

My impartial view is that the war cannot be won and the USA troops are wasting their time. The only solution is in healing the wounds between the muslim groups, not bringing in a foreign army.

Some US retired chief of the army formerly in charge over there (Sanchez or someone) says it's a nightmare and no, no one is winning. Not sure we need to have an impartial view (whatever that may mean) we can just see with our eyes.

Ask a soldier. We have won. We are there on a peace-keeping mission. Contrary to the myth, we are not at war with Iraq, but we are there to protect innocent Iraqis from terrorist thugs who threaten them. I do hope the Iraqis are soon ready to stand on their own, though.

Watch Fox News...fair and balanced.........A friend of mine has a son in Iraq, and his son said that fox is the ONLY news that comes close to what is really happening over there....the other news sources..MSNBC, CNN, CBS, NBC...they all have an agenda driven news cast and will NEVER show anything positive with anything having to do with George Bush or our troops....its a disgrace and treason to this great country....if you want to hear honest debate over the war and other issues listen to Sean Hannity or watch Hannity and Combs....

winning the war? we don't even know why we are there... it started with Weapons of Mass Destructions that they were sure existed... then they said there's a possibility that they don't have any... so what was the point again?? what exactly do we need to do to 'win'??
