I'd rather win a prize, because a praise might not have future value for me. If someone tells you you're hot, that's good. The feeling you get is awesome. However, if someone gave you a gold watch, you'll still have it months or years after. That's why a prize is more precious to me.

it goes a long way with boosting your self esteem and confidence, just like a prize it can stay with you a life time.
not too mention the morale boost it gives you for a day or two !!!
