I disagree with the decision of PGMA giving full clemency for the ex-President Erap. Imagine the 30 million pesos spend in pursuing the case just wasted in a matter of days when PGMA declared the full clemency. This is the form of example that those wealthy, influential person get away with everything. Only in the Philippines. If these happen in the US, we will be seeing Erap in the County jail minggling with other inmates of the State. Because in the US nobody is above the law, and even the President of the US wouldn't give a damn about him nor give him full pardon even if he is a former President, they follow what the law dictates, but not in the Philippines. Imagine every year we are witnessing new law graduate integrating as full pledge lawyers in our society yet we couldnot even implement the law as it is. What a waste of graduates.

Let us assume Gloria reason's that Erap is 70 plus year old already, and was jailed for 6 long years, but come to think of it, he was the only person in jail in history of the Philippines who is enjoying full amenities in life, imagine having house arrest inside his own mansion in Tanay Rizal, have the privileges of going to his doctor's in Veteran's Hospital by helicopter, full convoy of SUV vehicle in visiting his own mother who is sick in San Juan Hospital. Now he used that excuse to ask for full clemency for his sick mother. So pathetic. He told us before in the previous newsreport he would rather rot in Muntinlupa rather than ask for clemency or pardon from the President, and now a new music is being heard from him. I didnot elect him to be our leader then. He hasn't got the qualify of one either. Erap para sa mahirap is a JOKE.

So it is not fair for us FILIPINOS to witness this kind of injustice to reign in our midst. We should remove Gloria and De Castro, na puro pa pogi lang.

Erap was convicted in a court of law. Therefore there was sufficient evidence provided to make the guilty judgement.
If you have a law which pardons a person who is of a specific age then that law applies to everyone. In the case of Erap there needed to be a conviction which in effect made him bankrupt or reduced his financial holding to an amount 'earned' as salary for being President.
I am not aware of any 'back-room' deals which may have been concluded but any that may have been may have been for the good of the Country.
What needs to happen is to elect people who are not corruptible and will enforce a non corrupt government at National and local levels. There are politicians out there who are not corruptible.

For some, the pardon was unfair since they want Erap to serve the punishment as decided by the court. For others, they feel that the pardon was the only solution to the political bickering.

Not fair at all. Erap was guilty of his crimes and must pay for them. He should rot in jail or better yet, put to the gallows.

Gloria Arroyo pardoned Erap because Arroyo herself is mired in so many corruption charges. She wanted to set a precedence so that when a new president gets elected to succeed her, she would also be pardoned for her crimes.

for me, it is not fair. But who could question the President's pardonning power, when it is a constitutional privilege?
