I just turned 19 and I havn't gotten my period yet. I talk to some people who say some girls are just late bloomers. Others say that i should go to the gyno and get it checked out, because something may be blocking it. I feel fine and havn't had any complications. I 'm kind of nervous about going to a gyno, but i don't know anyone who was this old and never gotten their period. Is it normal, and I'm just a late bloomer or could their be something wrong?

I know some take after their mothers but my mom got heres when she was 16 and my sister was 13.

Thanks for your help.

Some girls are late bloomers but this usually only goes to 18. I suggest you see a gyno, just to make sure. I doubt anything would be physically "blocking" it (otherwise there would be years of trapped blood) but it might be good for them to check your hormone levels or reproductive organs. It is pretty rare, although possible, not to have it by 19, as you say your mother got hers at 16. You haven't said how much you weigh or how else you are developed, so it's hard to know. If you are a gymnast or something that could explain it, but I guess you would have mentioned that if it were the case.

I have had one friend not get hers til she was 19... and she WAS just a late bloomer. However, there could be something wrong... that you may want to get checked out. Gyno's are NOT as bad as some girls make them sound. I am 22 and have been to the gyno 2 times a year since i was 14... and I am still alive (and healthy). Take a trusted female with you to a Gyno appointment, it makes things better.

You should go to the gyno. That really is quite late. I'm not saying anything's wrong, maybe you are just a late bloomer. But I think it would be more reassuring to hear it from a doctor. If it's the 'gyno' part that makes you nervous, you could also go to a general practitioner/ regular family doctor.

If you haven't gotten your period by the time you are 16 then you should've been checked out by a gyno - you could have a hormonal problem. Just have a gyno check out the situation to know what's going on for sure. Best of luck!

Yes, you need to see the gynecologist to have them check this out. A hormone imbalance could be causing this.

Depending on what kind of insurance you have they may ask that you start with your primary care physician first so I would recommend talking to them first.

Make a appointment with your friendly family Doctor first. The Doctor knows what action(s) to do after that.

are you under weight?
I had a friend who was extremely under weight, and she didn't get her period until she was 18.
your body may not be producing enough hormones.
have you ever been on birth control?
sometimes birth control can supress your ovaries.
I went off depo last year and found out that my body quit producing hormones, so I'm on hormone replacement therapy.
