Im starting to think Australia is the "lucky country". I have answered questions about child support and divorce and get the thumbs down quite often. Maybe they are from people who live in the U.S and dont have the same kind of services...although I thought child support was world wide....I thought it was the same in every country. The more questions I answer and get the thumbs down, the more I am thankful I live in Australia. We obviously have a better system over here....its much more simple. Do Americans really think they are superior...do they really think their government is good? Gee, from what I have seen and read, Aussies are far better off than the Americans.....we have better pay rates, we have better conditions. Child support handles child payments without the need to go to court.. Ok, Amercians do you really think you are the superior race...if so, tell me why?

Hello! I am English, living in Australia at the moment. I have been to America and think that Australia is by far the better country to be living in. The living conditions in Australia are fantastic. I am renting a house with my partner in Queensland for $400. That's a 4 bedroom house with a large garden and a 3 minute walk from a beautiful beach. In London we were renting a tiny 2 bedroom flat, sharing with another couple for over double that! Everyone is relaxed and friendly.
Aside from that, you have health care, not quite sure of how it works yet and hopefully I wont need to know! But you don't get ****** every time you go to the doctors or the emergency room like the Americans do.
I loved America but sure am glad I'm not an American. It's a country that continues to make the rich richer and the poor poorer.
(Although I can't say I'm too impressed with John Howard!)

Australia is a lucky country to have progressed so far since their earliest days of starting off as a colony of the British Empire, much like the United States of America. Although our roots are similar, I think there may be many differences in each of our cultures that we both may not be aware of. BTW, I wouldn't say as a general rule that us Yanks think we are superior to y'all (little bit of southern accent thrown in to add some flavor to this conversation).
I believe our child support exists in each state, but may be a little different state-to-state, so it wouldn't be surprising to me to learn that Australia was different as well. Simple may not always be better, so the assumption may be invalid. Whether the government is "good," depends on many aspects. For example, the unemployed welfare mother or father who receives food stamps, social security supplement payments and their unemployment check, would think the government as benevolent toward helping their family out of tough times. However, if all the money received in subsitence still wasn't enough to cover all the bills, then their opinion might change. When you talk about government, they may have various opinions as well considering if it was the federal government, the state government, county government, or even the city government. All have social welfare programs & they all run independently of and in conjunction with each other, depending on the issue, where the money comes from, etc.
Better? Opinion stated as fact, does not simply make it so. When doing a comparitive analysis, U have to look at it as apples to apples & peaches to peaches. Compare costs of living and only compare one country's monetary figures to another after inputing the exchange rate.
The idea of not having to go to court would appeal to many in the U.S., unless they were on the receiving end of being ripped off in this process. Going to court helps guarantee their rights are preserved and protected. Does Australian Child Support (an agency I take it) determine custody, visitation & child support payment amounts? Who has the final say in the matter? the social/case worker? The supervisor? the parents themselves (only if amicable)?
Child support here is based on a formula where the judge will input income from both husband and wife, then whomever is awarded custody of the children, will receive the already determined fee. Legal arguments are presented for each side as to why they should, or shouldn't have custody of the children. Of course it could be that the spouse simply allows the other to obtain full custody & keep a check on the children through the use of liberalized visitation.
Americans (including Canada, Mexico & The U.S.) are comprised of many races, none superior to any other.

I think personally you do live in a better place. I can't get justus but I would love to just terminate, f the courts would let me. I feel with everything that I have that it would be very hopeful but I get very scared when I go in front of a JUDGE. What do you think, he's been arrested 5 times since our divorce in 06 since seeing th kids 2 yrs ago and abandoment with battery charges on the girlfriend and me a permanent restraining order now. History in all report documented he is very intoxicated and drunk even when we got our divorce he blew a .30 which maxed out the machine when he was tested.

I'm British and have lived in Australia for a year when our baby was first born...we are back in the UK now... Australia definately has a better system than the US....you seem to be left to your own devices in America...there are lots of benefits in Oz....but I did find the healthcare system a bit odd....the way you are never chased for a cervical smear for instance....but have to go yourself....here in UK if I miss one appointment then I am bombarded with letters. I also think the education system is better in UK....we have i think about the same benefits for parents in Egland and Oz....but yes the US seems very tough on the weak....I read about Mothers who cannot afford healthcare whilst pregnant...thats got to be wrong.
