I think my favourite is Sonny but we think Sonny syms might sound a bit naff. The second name will be Blair as this is my maiden name. We cant ask family and friends as we are not telling them the sex of the baby so any input would be greatly appreciated

Sonny syms does not sound too good. Louie is cute. It's not common anymore.

Oscar Blair Syms is lovely. Easily my favorite of the lot. :)

Louie is too informal for my taste. At least Louis -- with the same French pronunciation -- has a formal appearance, if that makes sense. Still not my favorite with Syms, however.

And I have to agree that Sonny Syms is just right out. It sounds off. And since Sonny is really just a common nickname for a Junior or, really, any young lad (LOL), it seems you might use a given name that works well with the surname and still call him Sonny on occasion, if it really suits. ;)

Hope that helps.

I think Sonny is a nickname. And, truthfully, it's a nickname for virtually *any* given name, so you could name him Joe and still call him Sonny. But, yes, Sonny Syms sounds like a fictional character, not a baby boy!

Louie sounds too informal for a given name, but Louis Syms runs together - the "s" sounds blur.

That leaves Oscar, and, fortunately, Oscar Blair Syms is a fabulous name. I'd use it.

Sonny Blair Syms ... Sonny Syms Blair
Oscar Blair Sims ... Oscar Syms Blair
Louie Blair Syms ... Louie Syms Blair

Louis (Lewis) is also a good choice.
While I do prefer Oscar ... His initials will be O.B.S.

I have no problem with Blair ... Blair Underwood is an awesome actor.

They all sound fine, they all flow nicely ... I say pick the one that is your favorite and go from there.

Congratulations.

Oscar Syms sounds nice. Oscar is not that common of a name and it goes great with your last name. Besides you can nickname him Obey since his middle name will be Blair. Louie is OK and Sonny kind of clashes with your last name. Other than that I think you've made some good choices and good luck with everything.
I like the idea of keeping the gender between you guys. I had several friends who decided to tell everybody only to be disappointed when the baby was born and they had to return and exchange some of the stuff (too much pink), lol. Good luck again.

I'd go with Sonny Boy Syms. (I think it's cute)

You don't have to tell them the sex to say that you want to give the baby your maiden name a middle.
Make up a few fake girl names just to throw them off.
Blair could go with either a boy or a girl.

I like Oscar the best.....

Sonny - I have never been a fan... and alliterative names sound stupid!

Louie - I prefer Louis - I don't like "nicknames". (but I'd rather you just use Louie if that's all you're planning on calling him.... no point in having a proper name if it's not going to get used). But then it would be Louis Syms, and because the first name ends with the same letter the last starts with makes it sound like a run on name.... Like Louis Ims...

I don't like any of those names. How about using Blair as the first name and then Sonny as the middle since you like that one the most
