Poland and Czech republic both have a continental climate, resulting in rather steady weather, (compared to the changing weather in coastal areas like Wales and the Netherlands,) the countries near them not much different, although the coastal areas will be less steady.

April and May are spring months, you may have cold, wet weather or rather sunny and nice.

Clothes, you will not go wrong with jeans, T-shirts and sweaters and a wind and rain proof jacket.
Dress-up on formal occasions and when clubbing, shirt and tie and suit for business meetings.
(Women dress-up ladies equivalents.)

From what I have seen, they have a little less crime than western Europe, but as the local population has less money to spend, crime is harder on them.
Theft of fuel from cars is/used to be common, but as a full tank equaled a weekly wage, (even with the lower cost of fuel,) it would hurt the owner more. So the locals would almost never have more fuel than just enough for the next day.

Try the local food. I love the sauerkraut soup. But most of the traditional dishes I have tasted I like.

Take a good guidebook and explore.

When you say countries near them, realize that Austria and Switzerland, while near, have a completely different price level. Climate and clothing will be alike though.

Hmm England, wet but comfortable. Vandalism of personal property, theft, harassment, threats and they'll get away with it all! Food Fish and Chips of course.
