Yeah and cry on the inside. At least other people might think we don't have it.

Most women do not even understand the concept of penis envy. They think that penis envy is envy of an actual physical penis when in actuality penis envy is the envy of the social power that goes along with having a penis in patriarchal society. And I will probably get multiple thumbs down for telling you the truth.

I don't laugh-Freud was an idiot. I liked his idea of the unconscious, but his obsession with an oedipal complex was bizarre. A few biographers suggested his obsessions were a result of his cocaine addiction..

As a Psych major: I'll take Skinner, Kinsey, Maslow, Alice Miller and Kübler-Ross over Freud any day.

Ave, I gave you a thumbs down because you didn't leave a source where you got your info that men are envy of women being able to show any emotion they want (even in public), and esp. how men are jealous of women's ability to get out of tough situations easily. I myself find that reprehensible not enviable. This accountability is the underlying trait that serves to establish a man as such. And I'm glad as a man I'm held responsible for my actions and choices because with responsibility comes power and vice versa and there is nothing more attractive than power.

I actually think it's kind of a valid sentiment, as long as you're defining "penis" in its social sense rather than in its physical sense.

Conversely, I really believe that men suffer from womb envy. But once again, the term "womb" is not meant literally as much as it is meant abstractly.

I think both sides envy something that the other is popularly considered to have in more abundance. For example, I believe that at their core, women tend to envy men's assertiveness, and powerful social standing. Men, on the other hand, genuinely envy women's ability to get out of tough situations more easily, and their freedom in displaying any emotion they want to (even in public). This is what I think of when I hear the terms "penis envy" and "womb envy".

As for men and women actually WANTING the genitals of the opposite sex, ummm... no. That is, in fact, pretty laughable.

I think nearly all of them laugh at that idea. Just because women want to have more choices in their lives doesn't mean they want to be men. I can't understand why some men aren't able to understand that.

Most PEOPLE, if they are reasonably informed and have given thought to such matters, find the idea laughable. At least if it's taken to be basic to womanhood rather than something some particular individual might experience.

EDIT

Incidentally, philosophers, such as fellow Austrians, Wittgenstein and Popper, knew from very early on that this was NOT a science. But fashion dictates in many fields.

I sure do. Who would ever want one of those things? We like what we've got down there, and strength can come with it.
