In my opinion, the golden rule of art is that something can always be read differently and spun for a different reception.

From a purely visual point of veiw, a butterfly is an insect with chaotic colourful wings which are confusing to look at, indeed deliberately contrived that way to prevent predators getting an easy meal. For instance some butterflies have large eye shaped patterns on their wings to fool predators into thinking it's more of a threat:

Secondly, the path of its flight is somewhat chaotic and it is confusing to know exactly where it is headed. This is because such large, joined wings don't offer much aerodynamic grace, so they flutter hither and thither, in a confusing manner if you were trying to catch it.

From the butterfly's perspective, perhaps it is following a scent trail, but with it's powerful ofalctory system it can smell almost everything, and probably has a confusing time working out which trail to follow and where exactly to do. One can compare this to someone in a supermarket dashing around the aisles not sure of what they need and constantly backtracking due to forgetting certain items.

I don't see it as representing confusion. For the human observer, the path may seem more random, than anything else. Try to predict, for instance, which direction the butterfly will go at any particular moment.

We cant, but, to the butterfly, it's path may be more purposeful. It may be following the pheremones of another butterfly's path. These pheremones may only be a faint string of tiny molecules, brushed about by the movement of air currents. The butterfly is not confused. It is merely following a complicated path.

that is summer. Monarch butterflies are everywhere, shifting into surely everyone's way. this does not make you specific. this does not have any specific meaning. Do you think of a similar component whilst ants flow your course? Or a fowl flies overhead? Or a squirrel runs up a tree close to you? Or a moth starts to bash itself against your mild? No, needless to say no longer. Or a minimum of i'm hoping no longer. So why might you think of that simply by fact butterflies are approximately it would desire to recommend some thing unique?

Appearances can be deceptive, the butterfly is probably following the trail of various scents either to flowers or to other butterflies to mate with them...and it's what makes them beautiful, if they flew straight and direct would that be an improvement? I don't think so.

Butterflies seem to meander all over without any direction or purpose.
