If not... what factors decide if it can fit?

Intake manifold! add a spacer? to fit? custom shops usually have!

Any carburetor can be mounted on an engine that is set up for carburetors with the proper adapters, if they are available. BUT, they may not perform up to your expectations, since each carburetor is specifically set up for a certain engine, for example: jet size, performance curve, economizer valve settings, etc, just to name a few. The list is too long to put all reasons here. It is much better to stick with a carburetor that is designed for the applied application at hand.

No . There are MANY different sizes of carbs.
1 it has to fit the intake manifold
2 it has to be made to fit that engine.
There is linkage that has to match,bolt holes, vacuum lines etc.

yes. I once put the carburetor off my murray gas lawnmower on my 69 chevy malibu and it hauled grass.

no it has to match the manifold..to make the engine run the carb has to have somewhat close fuel and air mixture
