Is there such a thing as a cheap house anymore? At least in my area here you can't touch a fixer upper for under $200,000. Maybe in a big city will be the cheapest homes you will find. And that probably wouldn't be a good neighborhood if you did.

Looking for a home is very hard work. Be prepared with the idea that you might have to look at 100 properties to find what you want. This will not make you very popular with real estate brokers. Also look at "for sale by owner" properties listed in the newspaper. If you like a certain neighborhood, get in the habit of driving through it once a week to look for "for sale" signs.
