Ive heard that in the full length movie when the dad chases his son and wife it happens for a long time but in the tv version it is really short. So can somebody clear this up for me?

Im asking cause if its actually longer than in the TV version then I want to rent it.

the tv version is shortened to allow more time for commercials and to make it easier to fit in a 2 hr time slot most cable channels are very rigged with their time slots.

kubrick used long scenes to dictate the tension and suspense to the audience. he also used a lot of geometrical shapes notice how many scenes the wall paer or elevators make patterns or groups of rectangles. it plays tricks on your eyes and makes your subconcious feel uncomfortable.

You should watch the uncut video on dvd anyway they have also editted the movie on tv for content they can't show on regular or basic cable tv. watch it the way the director intended you to see it.

** oh you mean the miniseries with steven weber? supposedly stephen king was never really happy with the 70's movie and the miniseries screenplay was written by king. but it being made for regular network tv really hurt the quality of the production. the 70's movie is much much better in my opinion.

nicholson's Jack Torrance is an icon in the genre of psycho suspense horror movie.

It is a bit longer because they keep doing close ups of Jack and Danny running through the maze and some things were shortened to allow the movie to be shown in a 2 hour time slot.

I am assuming you are talking about the edited version that is shown on tv from time to time because the made for tv version with Rebecca DeMornay and Steven Weber didn't have the maze in it.

Well, the TV version was a mini-series, so it's much longer than Kubrick's version. And much closer to the actual story, I might add. It would only make sense that the TV version would have a longer chase scene.

But if you're talking about when they play Kubrick's film on TV, then of course it would be shorter.

Regardless of whether the chase scene is longer, if you are looking for something that is true to the book, get the miniseries. Stephen King was not happy with Kubrick's treatment of the story and when he got the chance, he bought back the book rights and wrote the screenplay for the miniseries.

I don't mean to detract from Kubrik and nobody plays crazy like Jack, but really, I highly recommend the miniseries.
