According to JK Rowling, yes he is and he's also just a fictional character.

I like Harry Potter. A lot. There are things I love about the series. I've even said, since the last book came out, Rowling's the second coming of Henry Kuttner (which from me is high praise). There are things I DON'T like about Rowling, such as her joining with Warner Brothers to defend their trademarks in ways which have been traditionally considered fair use here in the US -- I do not see the difference between Tanya Grotter and the Magical Double Bass and the First Flash Gordon Sunday Page's resemblance to Wylie and Ballmer's When Worlds Collide while taking on a Hindu Religious Group's calling their castle Hogwarts is distasteful period.

Frankly, I'm used to Art, in any medium, being something a little bit better than the artist can do. I've MET writers and artists who seriously believe their audience contains people who know more about their work than they do. Perhaps Rowling is the same way, though I don't know. There was a fun radio commentary on this subject on NPR the other night where the commentator said that Snape with his Bette Davis mannerisms was easier to believe was gay than Dumbledore. His perspective of course was that of a gay man.

Some writers I would trust to know what their characters' sexual identity is. Not Rowling. I don't even trust her to understand what is original and what is part of the cultural zeitgeist.

So you can make up your own mind and agree with me that she's wrong or not.

According to JKR, Dumbledore is gay because it's "her character and she can say what she want to say about him."

She announced to the world that Dumbledore is gay. She said that she had several clues in her books to indicate this. But of course, the only way to really see this in the books was by reading between the lines.

And after reading between the lines, one can conclude:

Not only was Dumbledore gay, but he was a pedophile as indicated by Rita Skeeter's reference to his affections toward Harry as being sinister and inappropriate.

Reading between the lines tells us Dumbledore was not only secretly in love with Grindelwald but with Snape also. Why else would he trust such a vile man? Isn't it obvious that he was into the bad boys?

Reading between the lines, his brother, Alberforth Dumbledore, was into bestiality with his goats. As was Hagrid (he loved his magical creatures) and Mr. Filch (he loved his cat, Mrs. Norris.)

Reading between the lines, Bellatrix cheated on her husband and became Voldemort's lover. That explains Voldemort's reaction when Molly Weasley killed her.

Reading between the lines, Crabbe and Goyle are gay also. Why? Because no girl at Hogwars wanted them and they were always together. So they just fell into each other's arms.

Reading between the lines, McGonagall, the nurse, the herbology teacher and any other Hogwarts teacher who didn't marry is either gay or lesbian. But you can't get all of this without reading between the lines.

Millions and millions of fans missed all these new and exciting facts. But thanks to JKR, we got them now!!!!

What are you worried about? Did you want to date him? If the series is over and it made big news because nobody figured it out on their own, then what does it matter that Ms Rowling always pictured him that way in her head?

Of course, why do you think in book 7 Rita Skinner (that badly dressed tramp) said his relationship with Harry was 'unatural'? What did you think she was referring to?
