no they're not wearing those masks so they ''can't spit on soldiers'', they're wearing them so they can't breathe well. And the headphones and the eyepiece are also disgusting torture devices, let's get real. stop trying to fool yourself.

The pictures have been altered.

The first ones appear to be the inside of a cargo plane. Notice the padded sides and the straps are for holding down crates. The cargo planes that I've been on have bench seats all the way down the sides, but these don't.

Also, there is no military custom for hanging an American flag from the overhead. As far as I know, there is no custom for hanging a flag anywhere in side an aircraft. The proper place to display the flag is on the side of the fusalage or on the wings as an identifier, along with the tail number.

So before you go off the deep end, realize that there are vets here who understand that you sympathize with the terrorists and will do anything you can to malign the heros serving our country and protecting the world from these monsters.

Since we are not at war with any country or government, we aren't holding a single POW.

We treat POW's very well, but we would normally shoot rabid animals.

I'm not losing any sleep over bin Laden's rabid pack dogs.

Deny the pack leader his pack and the leader won't be attacking any big prey by himself.

Now, when we finally go to war with Iran, any uniformed captives would be accorded full Geneva Convention protection, and they would be held for the duration and until they could be repatriated to a peaceful and defeated Iran.

Checked your links. Didn't see any torture or POW's, just some words proving that some people prefer to believe statements by people trained to lie about us as a public relations tactic.

As far as your requirement that they be called POW's because we call it a war, what do you call people who have been detained in the "War on Drugs"? If I smoked pot for political reasons as a protest against immoral drug laws, if arrested would I be a "political prisoner", a POW, an enemy combatant or a common criminal?

Those masks are the same ones the Japanese wore during the subway sarin scare (and doctors and nurses wear every day), so I think they can breath just fine. And if you think hoods are torture, you got problems. Yes, their are some unfortunate events, like abu-ghraib, but only Bush-haters and America haters believe that was sanctioned. Those soldiers were punished, not praised. As for the headphones, if you open your eyes, there's at least 2 Americans wearing them in one picture.

if these men were free and had captured you, do you think they would be nice and take good care of you or would they use you and chop off your head and mutilate you? wish you could be in a position to see how their prisoners are treated and how many they kill and maimed each day around the globe. so many that were release were right back killing asap. they can breath since they are alive and this is an old photo and the majority of prisoners are now gone at least the ones who countries will take them back. update your stuff.

You bleeding heart liberals are spineless! Those masks aren't so they have trouble breathing! And you think the goggles and ear muffs aren't TORTURE! If an interrogator so much as raises his voice at these terrorist scum prisoners, the liberals cry bloody murder and claim torture....

Old news and old photos. Please stop posting this question over and over.

By the way, what proof do you have that they can't breath in those masks? Wouldn't they be dead if they couldn't breath? We used those on the pol,ice department when prisoners kept trying to spit on us. How do you know the same is not true in those photos?

In short, all you have are some old photos that don't prove a thing.

I don't care about the prisoners, I do care about our troops getting their heads chopped off and who would want to be spat upon--I'm not insensitive, but our troops were placed in this terrible situation--I say they do what is necessary to ensure their safety, it's called--Survival baby.........

If I were moving prisoners I would have them wear hoods just like that. It keeps them from communicating with each other. You're an idiot if you think they can't breathe. Give me a break.

They are "unlawful combatants", and therefore are not prisoners of war.

Unlawful combatants are likewise subject to capture and detention, but in addition they are subject to trial and punishment by military tribunals for acts which render their belligerency unlawful.

The spy who secretly and without uniform passes the military lines of a belligerent in time of war, seeking to gather military information and communicate it to the enemy, or an enemy combatant who without uniform comes secretly through the lines for the purpose of waging war by destruction of life or property, are familiar examples of belligerents who are generally deemed not to be entitled to the status of prisoners of war, but to be offenders against the law of war subject to trial and punishment by military tribunals."
