Usually third person singular of present tense verbs end with s. Third person singular of verbs are used with the subjects he, she, it, or any noun that can replace those pronouns.

Jaicee's got it- the "s" comes after the third person singular in English. She defined the third person singular.

You have to watch out for the subjunctive, but your question asks about the "s."

English also uses "helping" verbs that are inflected. Most verbs end in a consonant, so this "s" just slides right on. However, "do" becomes "does" in sentences like "Does he want to go?"

Your question includes "say" which is the form you use with "I," "you," "we," and "they." The "says" that you mentioned goes with "he," "she," "it" or any noun that can replace these pronouns.

English is complicated. And we haven't even started on colloquial, substandard or ethnic dialects.

OK it depends on if the noun is singular or plural. Singular noun DO NOT have the s at the end but the Singular verbs DOES have the s.
The boy runs down the street. (singular)
Tammy dances to the funky tune.(singular)
The opposite is true for plural nouns. They have s, but the verb does not.
The boys run down the street. (plural)
Brad and Hope dance to the funky tune. (plural)
