Very true--although, if you were going to waste the same amount of money on other trivial pursuits, some people enjoy the excitement and novelty that really only comes around once a year--but fireworks are really expensive nowadays--in NZ, this year they're only on sale for 4 days to people over 18 years--last year it was 10 days and 14 years :)
But I agree in saving money rather than blowing it on stuff that doesn't really benefit anyone in the long run. It's a bit of a waste--but then, sometimes you just gotta enjoy life!

Would u mind saving ur money or starving to death instead of spending it on food? Obviously Fireworks are not a necessity but it is a part of festivity...
It is woth spending than saving it for no reason. If u believe in life after detah maybe u can go to grave with the money u saved.
Festivities are vanishing from our country, we need to keep them going.... we need this for the future generations.
Or they did be bored bursting Virtual fireworks... with fantasy neighbours and family.

It depends. Think of it this way. If you are willing to spend 2k on fireworks, are you willing to put the same amount of money into some investments. Most people that spend alot of money of fireworks can afford to do so, and some save up all year to do this. And most people know the value of saving money even if they don't do it for any other reason.

So if I understand your question, your asking if a city should spend money on a national holiday or try to put it to a better use. I say spend the money on the fireworks. It encourages people to get out of the house and guess what? Spend money!! Yes, lets get people out driving to the display (or riding their bikes, whatever) they will more than likely purchase snacks and drinks to consume while watching. Hmmmn, more money pumped into the economy, or elected officials getting pay raises? Go forth honorable citizen, and spend your money wisely while we put on a show for your entertainment!
Maybe we should build a colleseum and entertain ourselves Roman style.

This is a very subjective question. No one can decide how anyone else ought to spend their own money. Those who think bursting crackers is money going up in smoke are welcome to spend their money elsewhere and those who choose to 'burn' their money are equally free to do so. A thought could be spared for the environmental impact of bursting firecrackers, and certainly this must be regulated. But you cannot tell someone else how he should spend his money.

LMAO!
Maybe we should put a ban on Christmas lights too!
Lets all go into our cement bunkers and never celebrate this mortal coil called life. No alcohol. No entertainment. No pleasure of any kind.
Enjoy the fireworks. Find some zest for life. The cost is nothing in the big picture. People enjoy them.

I think that people who want to spend their money on fireworks should, instead, send that money to me. I've got bills.
